Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - I need to buy new tires

I'm sick of being overly concerned about riding in the snow/slush and wiping out and ****ing up my handlebars, making me dig into my messenger bag for my multi-tool to set them back straight.

I ride a Schwinn World Sport. I don't know what type of clearance it has, but I'm guessing 700x32 should fit? Yes or no? I need some tires with tread, maybe even some cyclocross.

I have some piece of sh1t tire at home that is a 35, but since I haven't gotten large size tubes I never bothered to try it out.

Also, say I do go and get a bigger tube today to put on the 35, and the 35 fits, for the time being is it better to put the 35 on the front or the rear?

some will say thin road tires dig into the snow better to give you better contact with pavement. some will say that knobby tires will get packed with slush and turn into ice tires. i ride road tires in the slush and snow, mtb knobbies in light snow or on ice/black ice (wider=more stability). from my experience and watching other people, you mostly need to do what makes you most comfortable and at ease, as your biggest enemy can be your own mind, and you can psych yourself out.

if you think this'll make you more comfortable, throw that tire on. and if it fits, i say front is better to prevent that wheel sliding out when you turn.

If you can fit 35s, studded.

If you're really hard up for cash you can at least check the fit of the 35 with a smaller tube before dropping any money on new tire(s).

I feel my tires slipping underneath me.

For instance, I was riding through center of campus to the computer lab I am at right now, and the spaces between pavement my wheels slipped. Whenever I turn on anything that isn't solid/dry ground it does not feel stable.

I wiped out today riding really slowly in the slush. Maybe I shifted my weight a little bit, but whatever may have happened my bike just went from underneath me.

I currently have some cheap continental slick tire on the rear and a Panaracer on the front. Neither tire has any tread...

I'm not hard on cash but I'd much rather know for sure if a tire fits..I should be concerned about what dimensions? Both width and height?

Nokkian Studded tires FTW! I have been ringing on them all this winter and all of last winter. They are awesome. Pricey, but awesome. Ice is nver a problem and they rip through snow. Really fun on packed snow.

Would cyclocross tires be good for these type of road conditions? I locked up next to a cx bike, guess he made it to class all right.

Then again there is a pake next to me that is running slicks so I wonder how his journey was.

Well I have class now. I'm not taking any chances and will probably just walk my bike back afterwards. I'll go home and measure the clearance to find out for sure..

Well the 700x35c tire I have seems to fit. If i didn't run fenders they'd clear for sure. I guess 32s would be good...

Why not head to the LBS before posting on here(other than boredom, which is reason enough for me) , They will have a selection they will be able to help you figure out what tyres will fit, Plus the more you are in the LBS, they more they will get to know you and likely to give you deals and be generally friendly to you rather than you posting in on here and going in there demanding what a bunch of goons on the internet told you to buy. After that, i would recommend x28 knoby tires, unless you are running into a lot of ice, in which case you want studded, Personally i like how narrow tires cut through snow and slush, and can live without the stability of X35, that being said when its gets really snowy i have to walk a block to a main road, so much of it comes down to your local conditions as well as personal preference
