Anybody from Whatcom County (or anywhere else in the NW) interested in carpooling to NAHBS? I still have to make sure I can go, and I would probably only go for one day/night, but I would love to go down to Portland and check it out.

My husband and I will be going, although I'm not certain when we'll be leaving. He's going to go for the Sportsmans Show, and I'll be there for the NAHBS. I'm hoping to get there for the Friday evening, so that we can do a meet and greet at the Lucky Lab.

We'll be leaving from Kent, of course. If you can't stay for more than one day, perhaps you could take Amtrak back?

Perhaps, right now I'm just trying to see what kind of options are out there. I may be able to convince my wife to come and make a weekend out of it yet!

That's my plan! Besides, that way I'd be able to meet the people who snagged that nice Miyata 1000!

I am hoping that Dr. D will have my Raleigh mixte ready by the show. With luck, I will be able to show it off to everyone :D .

Oh boy, oh boy :D :D :D !

If he does, I promise not to hold it for ransom or drool over it too much. ;)

fyi: this Texan booked his airfare and hotel this morning. I'll be staying at the La Quinta a few blocks away, arriving noon on Friday and leaving Monday afternoon.

I haven't heard from him lately on the status, but since he's not posting a lot, I think he must be working hard to get it ready :) .

My boyfriend and I are going. It's his birthday the 8th, so we are going to make a weekend of it. He doesn't ride bike (can't ride -- knee issues), the current plan is I'll go to the show during the day on bike, so he has free reign of the car to do his own thing. We are staying at the Kennedy School, which should give me a decent enough ride to the convention.

I'm very excited. I just hope I can get out of the convention center w/o putting anything on my credit card.

Are there lots of places to lock up bikes at the convention center?

There must be places to lock up a bike! Donna could probably answer that question better than I can, though.

I've seen a couple of threads about this show -- this one about carpooling, and another one in Classic and Vintage. Should we start a new thread about where BF people might arrange to meet at the show? Breakfast/lunch/dinner/etc?

I'm thinking that we're going to try to be there Friday afternon/evening, and will be hitting the Lucky Lab, close to where donnamb lives.

If we don't make it Friday, we'll certainly stay overnight on Saturday, and we'd hit the Lucky Lab again in the evening. We should be able to meet at least a few BF folks. Apparently a lot of the SS/FG folks will be there, and some of the AltBikers too.

Good to know. I doubt we'll make it Friday night to the Lucky Lab, and Saturday has a better possibility. If anything else, see everyone at the show itself!

I get the feeling that Saturday evening at the Lucky Lab would probably work best with almost everyone's schedule...

If people could post a range of times they plan to be there, it would be helpful. We have a dinner date with friends we haven't seen in ages, so if ya'll are there later we could join you for a nightcap.

Otherwise, we could have our nightcap at Henry's. Or, head over to the Laurelthurst for some music with our nightcap. Or, one of those bars downtown. Or, back to the Kennedy School.

Sigh. I  Portland.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be Saturday evening at the SE Lucky Lab, I'm just running a few ideas by some PDX members first. If people have friends they want to see, invite 'em! There's plenty of room.

Sounds as if the plans are firming up.

I really can't wait to meet so many BF members in person :D .

Heck, I'd go just for that reason alone, never mind that I get to see all those beautiful bikes AND I'm supposed to be getting my mixte :) .

Just FYI that the CR (Classic Rendevous) list is having a get together Saturday night as well. I know a lot of the C&V folk belong to both groups and may have to split our time between the two of we have a BF's get together Saturday night as well.

I believe that I found a case that will work for the Twenty... I haven't seen it but after mentioning that I needed a case my friend found a couple I am going to look at.

I can't wait to meet so many of the people who make my day after day after day and maybe I might even get to meet Mr Hill who seems like a right cool fellow (and would have to be to hang with EH).

The show is just going to be a bonus.

I think Mr. East Hill will join us later in the evening. He's actually planning on going to the Sportsmans show, and letting me roam around the bicycles on my own.

He is indeed a sweetheart!

Anyone going both days?

I made the mistake of assuming one day would be enough. Now, it's looking like two days isn't going to be enough, but that's all we're being given. :)

I'm annoyed with myself. I told my SO that it would only be one day that I'd go to the show. I think this means I committed to just one day. Doh!

East Hill
01-16-08, 09:24 PM
I know I'm going to be there Saturday, including the meet and greet at the Lucky Lab. I don't think my husband would have any serious objections to me going for two days if I thought I needed it. It's his days off, mine would be the problem (I have Tuesday/Wednesday nights off now). Easy enough for me to get one day off. On the other hand, I could just take three days off and have a mini-holiday :D .

I spent the last hour checking flights and connections and was thinking that a combination of air and rail would work really well since it saves me some significant $$$ and would let me see some scenery on the way down.

Not being stuck with flying Air Canada is a good thing.

I should have all my stuff booked by the weekend... I need my passport which I will be picking up first thing Friday morning.

I'm going to be in town starting Friday AM for a wedding (which is Saturday night).

Looks like I'm "free" to attend the show Saturday...I am thinking I will be there first thing in the morning and stay a few hours (the wedding is at 5 pm Sat).

Some possibility I would stop by the Lucky Lab if you all are going to be there late Saturday night...

I am very excited about the show...I checked the show website and it appeared to me that they've seriously updated the exhibitor list since I last checked...lots and lots of interesting folks going to be there.

This is going to be fun.

I don't think fun will even begin to describe this trip... I'll be staying a week in Portland with some of the coolest people imaginable and then spending a couple of days in Vancouver with my brother and some friends before I fly home.

Now I am counting the days but soon it will be hours, and then minutes.

I also hear that there is a bike show happening.

Canadians are far cooler than most people... that would probably have something to do with the weather.

Just 20 more sleeps to being somewhere warmer.

The convention center has it's own station on the Max. You would need to change from the Yellow line (the one that leaves from the Expo center) to the blue or red and then it's one stop east. I plan on taking it down to the Rose district and riding a little ways on the way in and then going for a ride after the show.

Actually, it's a 2-3 block walk from the Yellow line station to the Convention Center - really no need to transfer to a Red or Blue line train. Just so you know. :)

I believe there will be an iBob (inter-net Bridgestone Owners Bunch) contingent at the Luck Lab at some point as well, and Saturday is advanced packet pick up for the Worst Day of the Year ride. Sounds like cyclists will be taking over the Lab that day!

I will probably run in to some of you at either the show or Lucky Lab, not that I will recognize anyone, or vice-versa, but there is always hope!

Call the Lucky Lab. If they are open during the event, then you'll be able to mingle.

I believe I'm going to be getting new brakes for my bike soon, so I think I'll be skipping the ride.
