Southeast - Rails-to-Trails Conservancy Seeks Trail Mapping Help!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Greetings,

I’m the Director of Information Technology for Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and we’re conducting a GPS mapping project that could really use your help. We’re mapping all the country’s rail-trails for the first time ever. This data will be freely available to the public on our website TrailLink.com. The help we need from you is easy – all you need is your GPS receiver. We collecting GPS tracklog and specific waypoints for each rail-trail. Please visit http://www.traillink.com/gps.aspx for more detailed information or feel free to email me directly at frederick@railstotrails.org.

Thank you for your help!

Frederick

Frederick, I sent your information to some of the local people involved in the rails projects http://triangletrails.org/ATT.HTM . They have also forwarded your contact info to the East Coast Greenways Alliance http://www.greenway.org/ . Not sure who will handle the local trails, I've offered to help.

Frederick,

I put an announcement on the Virginia Bicycling Federation website (http://www.vabike.org/2008/01/05/rails-to-trails-gps-mapping/), with a link to your GPS mapping page. In the future, give us a shout at webmaster@vabike.org so we can help spread the word of your activities.

Matt and Chuck,

Thank you for your effort in spreading the word about our mapping initiative.

I'll definitely alert you of any other upcoming activities.

By the way, the American Tobacco Trail is a great trail development project.

Thanks again,
Frederick
