Mountain Biking - upgrading

is it better to upgrade to a better model for parts or if you want FS?

FS I understand out of that but, not the rest. Do you currently have a hardtail and want to get a FS in the future?

I'm giving this a second try. I think he means this: "Is it better to upgrade my current FS or should I get a new one?"

I think it's meant to say, "I have a hardtail but is it better to upgrade to a new hardtail from an old hardtail for better components or to get a full-suspension?" This sounds like it's really two seperate questions.

Well, I get that depends on your current needs. Are you finding that a hardtail is holding you back? I used to be rather naive about suspension and believed that full-suspension was the natural path when upgrading. I don't think this is true. Full-suspension gives you another way to enjoy mountain biking and opens up different avenues but it by no means a replacement for the hardtail or even rigid experience. Like I said before, I think you're facing two questions here.

Should I get a full-suspension bike. Am I looking to ride terrain that requires it or will a hardtail do?

Is my hardtail lacking in terms of componentry? Should I upgrade its componentry or get a new bike with upgraded componentry?

Does that sound right?

ok i have a GF Marlin. Say i wanted to upgrade to a Ziggurat. its still a hard train, same amount of travel, just better parts. is it a good idea?

Encrypted, what kind of riding do you do? For example: Downhill, FreeRide, Dual Slalom, Cross Country, Urban.

Full Suspension bikes are good for some types of riding and not others. I tried a squishy and I didnt like it one bit. Although it was a good squishy, it didnt suit my type of riding.

I prefer hardtails over full suspension bikes. For several reasons actually, the main one being durability. A hardtail has less moving parts (pivots, swingarms, rear shock) which means less maintenance which means more riding.

If there is nothing wrong with your current frame, just upgrade the parts. Fork, drivetrain, tires, etc..

upgrade what you have now, dont wait a few YEARS to get a FS if you need something better now. Maybe wait a few months so you can get 2003 parts cheaper when the 2k4 parts are out.
