Alt Bike Culture - bike-flower

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I had an old Kent that was pretty trashed so I decide to make a flower out of it. I cut it up using a Sears Twincutter, which is awesome. Cutting thru a tube twice as fast as a chop saw and the cut is not near as hot.

Fillet brazed together. Prefer to gas weld because there is less clean up, but I need to practice fillet brazing.

When it is done it will look kind of like this(This one was made using gas pipe, 20g, and angle. A bike hub was used for the flower so it spins in the breeze)

What a great way to recycle those old Huffys and Magnas and turn them into something that won't kill anyone :) .
What did you use for the petals?

20g steel sheet. Brazed to the hub and then rolled using a piece of pipe to get the curve.
The finished one was a Christmas present for my Mom. The unfinished one will be for my wife.

How long did the finished one take? I assume that there was some painting involved, as well (although as a lawn decoration it probably didn't require a perfect application).
This really is an interesting way to get rid of some otherwise crappy bits and pieces.

Around ten hours. It was spray primered and then the color was three coats of brushed enamel.
I am going to use the headtube/set and the BB as well, for some bigger projects.

Oh, you know we will need to see the other projects.
I am still amazed at the ingenuity here. You could almost have a side business (not that it would pay much ;) ) doing this.

Is that a Scirocco 1 in the background???

Yep. That is another ongoing project. Free junker body. Swapped in a 1.8 with headwork, a 020 trans with Peloquin limited slip, Bilstein sports, H&R springs, Panasports/with A032s, stripped about 250 pounds out of it.
