Bicycle Mechanics - Question on Chainring Compatibility

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I am building up my first 9-speed bike, and therefore running into my first compatibility problems. I've got a 9-speed SRAM cassette, some old Shimano 600 cranks, and am now trying to decide which chainrings to buy. I am not interested in spending more than $60. I was originally planning to buy Salsa chainrings, but then I ran across some Shimano Sora chainrings on Harris Cyclery. The attractive part about them is that they're steel, and will last much longer than aluminum chainrings. And I don't need the ramps and pins and all that; the shifters are friction, and I can finesse it without any trouble at all.

I have been unable to find any information on whether these chainrings are 9-speed compatible. Every bike that is being sold with Sora gear is 8 or 7 speed, and no one else seems to sell the chainrings individually, or with any information. Are these chainrings compatible? Or should I buy the Salsa rings instead?

"8 speed" chainrings will work fine with a nine speed drivetrain.
