Just got myself a set of kahtoola Micro Spikes and the fit around where an SPD type cleat sits. SO if you have places you stop that might be Icy or have to walk a part that is Icy in your cycling shoes these work well. Had no problem clipping in and out and the grip on ice and hard pack snow is amazing.

Cool. Snow chains for your feet.

Those are OK but if you have six months of ice as we do here they will fall apart long before the winter is over. The steel tears through the rubber. I use screws directly into my boot sole, changing them out about once a year.

I have used Yak Traks and a slip on with small carbide spikes that forgot the name of. The Yak Traks work ok but fall apart after one winter. And they are also slippery as h*ll if you wear them into a store with tile floors. The carbide spike units are great and you can get replacements spikes for them after the old wear down to nubs.

A company called Icebugs makes sneakers with built in carbide spikes similar to spike tires. Not a solution if you need boots, but for something to bike with that still can grip an icy road these might work.
