Foo - new kitty

So for the last few days we kept hearing a cat meowing from what sounded like under the house. We just kept thinking it was our cat because each time we heard it we would open our door and she would come on in. Finally we heard it while she was walking past us in the kitchen. So I remove the crawl space access door and start looking around and shake a little food in the bowl and I'll be darned if this "little" guy doesn't come up to me as friendly as can be. We feed him and then let him out to go back home and he goes right back under the house. So we get him out and clean him up and he's happy as can be and quite the little snuggler to.

That seems to be the way it works with cats. Our old cat, Zeo, used to belong to the neighbors, but he decided he liked us a lot better than his owners.

What a cutie! Is he neutered? It's possible that he was scared by fireworks on New Year's and got lost. You could try taking him to your vet to see if he's microchipped.

Otherwise, he's a lucky boy :D .

A while ago, elementry maybe middle school my dad had these apartments and a trailer thing next to it for supplies. We were in the trailer and I heard this meowing noise as well. It was a bebeh kitten. I wanted it :( There were lots of strays over there.

Not neutered, plan on going to vet on monday. He does seem to have been well taken care of but so far no neighbors claiming him.

Now we have a total of 6 cats in our house..used to be 8 but we gave them away.

I was riding a bike when I heard a kitten meowing on the border between a college campus and a decent sized wooded area/park. No where near any housing; I'd assumed the cat had been dumped. It was late October if memory serves, and things were getting a little frigid at night.

I stopped, but the cat skedaddled from me. Came back a couple of hours later with some hamburger, it was nowhere to be found. OK by me, I didn't want a cat by any means, but I wasn't going to let it freeze/starve to death, either.

My anecdote may not have had a point, but it was also time-consuming.

Check out those claws! Ouch! As much as I love kitty cats, I couldn't have one. My Wife says she is not having any dogs or cats on her Ethan Allen furniture. Can't say as I blame her.

Good call. I'm going to ask around and if no one in the neighborhood wants him I will
put it up there. He seems to be getting plenty of food and attention but it would be
nice to know he had a home base.

EJ123 is quite right - beware! These cats have a way of moving in and taking over. Long ago, on my walk home, I came across a tiny, wretched kitten just a few weeks old, sheltering all alone in the wheel-well of an abandoned car, mewing pathetically. I don’t much like cats, but it was a very cold night, and one can’t be completely cruel, so I wrapped her up and brought her home. Had to feed her with an eye-dropper for quite some time. The vet gave poor odds for her survival, but she pulled through.

Of course, once she was warm and dry, with regular feedings and no fleas anymore, she felt herself quite at home. Being so very small, she would burrow closely at night, draping herself across my neck and purring contentedly. You may think this seems charming, but I can tell you that a kitten purring into one’s ear all night long is like having someone snoring loudly nearby. Snoring, plus the occasional rearranging of claws in one’s neck. And forget about having a tuna sandwich, or a nice bit of grilled fish without her determinedly requesting her share.

I had thought it would be simple to find a good home for her once she had recovered, but this took far longer than I had ever expected. Five years, in fact, before a cat-loving friend adopted her. Years of untied shoelaces, cat toys in the sofa cushions, and snoring all night long. Looking back, I don’t think I slept properly at all during that whole time.

Worst of all, a while after I finally was freed of that burden, a neighbor brought me an abandoned kitten, even more wretched and tiny than the first. Evidently they thought I was the cat rescue person for our street. That kitten, too, survived, moved in, and grew up. It’s been six years, going on seven, and I am beginning to despair of ever getting my home back. If anyone would like to adopt a cat, do let me know.

You should see Mr. East Hill sleeping...he must face stomach down, with his left arm as a crook. Sammi steps neatly into the elbow niche, and settles in for the night. Not the right elbow. The left elbow only :D .

In my limited experience, cat are easy to please. Feed them. Help them scratch out all the loose hair in the summer. Keep them warm in the winter. Massage their head/neck/back/legs. Let them roam about. After my parents' cat died, a stray cat took up residence at their place for about five years. Cute little thing... we never claimed her as our own, but she always had a warm place to stay and plenty of food. In the winter, there would be a pile of blankets in a heated garage to keep her warm (despite my parents rarely heating the house proper), with a small opening in the window so that she could come and go as she pleased. After all, she wasn't our cat, and she would sometimes go away for a while (anywhere from a few minutes to a few days).

Her favorite activity appeared to be sleeping. That and getting massages... she'd position herself so that wherever she wanted a massage, that part of her (most often the top of her head) would be pressed against my hands, and I'd get the point. If I stopped or moved on to another part of her body before she was ready, she'd repeat the process of pressing her head (or wherever else she wanted a massage) against my hands. Communicative little kitty.

Aint it amazin just how fast they make themselves at home?

You must be joking! Fur always clinging to my pants legs, catnip toys underfoot! Did I mention the snoring in my ear? I've just gotten trapped, is all. Cats move in and take over the house before one even knows what has happened. Tricksy, they are, very tricksy.

Exactly right! It's a wonder I managed to breathe at all, especially since she insisted on sleeping in that position long after she was quite a hefty fully-grown cat. As I think back on it, with the purring/snoring in my ear all night long, and respiratory compression, I'm surprised I slept a wink.
