View Full Version : Bent BOB skewer, should I worry?

I was converting my mtn bike from summer beater/errand bike to winter/trail bike today, and when I pulled the skewer for the rear wheel that hooks to my bob, it was bent. Is this something I should worry about? Does a bent skewer indicate that I overloaded trailer, or somehow overstressed the skewer in some way?

Totally unprofessional advise here; First I would order another skewer to keep as a replacement for when you do need to replace it at the very least. Second make sure you have not bent your axial by inserting a straight skewer.
Obviously since it is bent it has been stressed but personally I think it as long as you did not bend your axial you have not been over doing it (something needs to flex under increased loads.) As long as the skewer does what it needs to do (keep the wheel on and hold the trailer) it will be fine and I would not worry about it.
how did the skewer bend without the axle bending?!? You might want to take a closer look at things.

It's a real slight bend right at the tip, where the non-qr nut screws onto the skewer, so it isn't visibly bent, but when I turn the nut, I can feel the bend in the nut itself.

Mine's been like that for years. Don't worry. Nothing bad will happen.

This is a very common thing with BoB skewers,Its always on the right side too...I just bought a new one for my Bob but I'm having a Machinist friend see if he can replace the skewer center on the old one with a stainless steel piece...I'll let ya'll know how it goes.
