My gym has a small pool that is about 20 yards long. Its long enough to do laps but not quite. You just dont get the same workout as you just get a few strokes and you are at the other wall. I would like to get some stretch cords such as those from Aquavee (aquaveeonline.com). What do you guys think about these? Would these be a good way to get a good swim workout without the constant flipturns breaking it up?

It's not uncommon for Bally's to have 20-yard pool lengths. The way I have learned to use this to my best advantage is to avoid the flip turn. Beside the fact that it's an advantage you won't have in open water, it also, as you say, makes it so you only end up doing a few strokes before you reach the other end. When I swim laps in a short pool I try to push off the wall as little as possible and concentrate on swimming the maximum possible distance. It works for me!

As for the Aquavee system, it would theoretically work for timed workouts, but not distance. Also, I'm suspicious
of how long suction cups would really hold on.

Stretch cords are good for sprint based workouts. Once you make it to the other end, you have to release the tension so that lap wont benifit you. If you were working on sprint events like a 50 or 100 I would recomend them but because you are working on much longer swims for a Tri, strech cords might not be the best option. A parachute might help though. I think keifer sells them, take a look and get back to us.
