Road Cycling - Bridge to Bridge Cycling Challenge - Your Thoughts?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Markman and I are planning on riding the Bridge to Bridge Cycling Challenge in North Carolina next September (as long as we survive the lottery). Does anyone have any thoughts, stories or advice? Training info would helpful. This will be my first true "cycling challenge".
Any thoughts from those who have completed (or attempted) this ride would be appreciated....Thanks!

Did you see this thread? Mainly, check out the article in Bicycling. My friends who do it every year say they aren't going to attempt it if the weather is like last year (raining, cold).

I want to try to do this too next year. I gotta get a road bike though. This is my ultimate goal and reason to get into road biking
I got into road biking this year and love it. When I read the article in Bicycling magazine about this ride, I knew I had to do it.

Well, if you're interested in the B2B, you might also want to check out the Blood, sweat & Gears (BSAG) (http://www.bloodsweatandgears.org), which is run around the end of June. I've ridden it the last 3 years. Plenty of climbing (around 12,000 ft, total), with the hardest part (snake mtn.) about 2/3 of the way through. It's in the same general area (NW NC).
Thanks, Roadbuzz...I'll check it out.
