Anyone crazy enough, or out of their minds enough to ride in today? There were some up here in Bay Area nuts enough to do it.

I rode about 15 miles this morning and finished just as the first drops fell.

Took rides today and yesterday along the river during breaks in the rain. Air felt nice and clean.

Bump! I did... But i'm not riding home. :)
Well, I rode AT work today! 14 miles during lunch under partly sunny skies that have now clouded over. Kinda cold but not too bad.
I really won't ride to work again until the Spring when the days are a bit longer. I'd rather not ride in the dark. So I need decent light at 7:00 am and also at 4:30 pm. If gas prices keep moving up, I'm going to try to ramp up my commute from once a week to twice by bike. (other days are a problem as I have other workouts plus have to take our daughter to school on the days my wife works.)

I rode into work today. 42 F this morning. Wore my tights, UA undershirt, arm warmers, jersey and jacket. I also wore my Under Armour ColdGear Hood <--- best purchase for cold weather! 13 miles and the ride was great!

I just got one afew weeks ago. It's totally awesome. :D It also has more "wear" options than other balaclavas (neck only, neck + face, head only, head + face). It definitely helped the one morning my thermometer read 33 degrees...
I rode in this morning...cut my commute short (I lengthen it to add Newport Coast Dr.) because I hit snooze about four too many times. Oops. :p 13 miles and it was 47 degrees when I left.

I did, like every morning.
Nice sunrise this morning, about 42 deg. when I left home.

I didn't ride today... Probably won't tomorrow either. Hopefully on monday next week. It's one of the non-perks of donating blood. :(

Wow, you must be sensitive.

Well, losing a pint of blood when you weigh as little as me (130 lbs) is very noticable. I don't get quite as tired as i used to when donating blood before i started cycling, but i'd rather not take any chances...

Whatever makes you comfortable. I did not want to imply what you were doing is wrong. I just happen to not be sensitive donating blood. However, I can't stay in a hot spa (104+) for more than a couple of minutes without feeling nauseated. It is just a physiological thing I guess.
Thanks for donating, that is the important part of all of this,

I rode in today (second time this week) and it was 44 F when I left this morning.
Wow, how much further is it if you lengthened your commute? My commute is 13 miles and as much as I like riding into work, I try to get into the office as soon as I can to avoid the cars who are also commuting with me. :p

There's a direct route that is 8 miles. My route today was 13. My typical route is 20.

My short route would be 11 miles, but that would mean riding with cars going 60+ mph... so I choose to not go in that direction. Plus, it's the route where they found the body yesterday (La Tuna Canyon).
So, my commute is longer, but safer. ;)

When I first bicycle commuted (1987) I was doing pre-work rides. After a 20 mile ride one morning, it dawned on me (see what I did there?, oh, nevermind) that if I just pointed my bike in the direction of the office I would already be there. That started it and I did it continuously until I stared working from home.

Haha, that exactly describes how I turned the 1.5 miles from my house to my office into a 15-25 miles ride :p Except for the year of course.

The best commute I had was Moorpark to Sherman Oaks, 45 miles in (over Santa Susana) and 55 miles home (Mulholland). I stayed at work about 4-5 hours.
Now my commute is east two bedrooms, turn left one bedroom and I am there.
20 miles this morning. It's hard when you're tired and there are shorter options...somehow I convinced myself to do the full "lengthened" commute that goes over Newport Coast. Ouch. My legs are starting to ache and the fixed gear wasn't helping matters. The descents are killing me too. I think I may commute multi-speed next week...and yes, I'm whining. :p

Another glorious morning commute at 44 F. Had only one car pass closely... thankfully all other gave more than three feet of clearance when passing. :)

I didn't realize that you worked so close to home. My co-workers can't wrap their brain around why I would ride 20 miles to work when I could ride just 8 miles. :p
Oh...and I'm not bashing my co-workers...they just don't get it. I do have to say that they have all taken an interest in what I'm doing and I'm always getting...how many miles today? where are you headed? aren't you afraid to ride in the dark? traffic? cold? I also had three offers for rides home last night. :p

Yes, both front and rear.

Ok, well, I was going to suggest brakes. At my advanced age, the steep downhills were killing my shoulders and knees until I put a brake on. I don't mind spinning 150rpm but when going down a long 15%grade, I need to hold back and that is when it hurts.

Nice ride in today. It's warmed up a lot, first day
lately that I've worn short finger gloves and no jacket.
Should be nice for the Malibu ride tomorrow, at least I won't freeze
riding over there.

Even with the brakes, it's killing me. I think part of it is not liking to have to brake and the other part is mental...I want to fly down the hills and I know I lose time on the commute because of that!

Ahhh I understand.... I do end up using the brakes more than I really need to because they are there. I am OK with that, my shoulders and knees are too. I go through brake pads quickly though. Just a suggestion, don't wreck anything now that you may want to have pain free in 20-30 years.

Its funny, because I used to just ride the 2 miles from my condo to work (years ago, before I got into road biking, and not where I live now). A coworker who is into fitness (who's husband is on this board once and a while) would give me a hard time about my short ride! She would always ask why I don't do a little extra to get more of a workout. At the time I just wanted to get into work and home as fast as possible so it was a hard concept to grasp.
But my other coworkers are always asking all kinds of funny things. One once asked if we were allowed to be on the roads
