Hey everyone,
just got back from a 45 min. ride with my girlfriend and noticed that in the shower i had a painful spot almost right between my (ahems) and my leg, right near my butt. Upon closer examination it appears to be a fairly painful kind of ball, about the size of a pea, and that barely sits up a little higher than the skin. I hadn't really noticed it on the bike, (i have a fairly rigid saddle and I'm accustomed to a little pain in my sit bones, plus I haven't been riding nearly as much due to university being back in so it usually hurts a bit when I don't ride often). I'm a little concerned that this is something potentially major. Has anyone else experienced this? Shoud I be going to a doctor or is this a saddle sore?
The strange thing is I've ridden a lot during the summer and have had no problems. But this is an area that rubs a lot on my saddle, so it appears that if nothing else, cycling has irritated it. I did, however, shave the night before, so maybe it's just irritated pores? I don't know, it has no definite head like an ingrown hair.... Anyways sorry if this is a little personal. I'm just a bit concerned..

Sounds like a clogged/irritated pore or hair folicle (not sure if I am using the correct terminology...). Some things to be wary of: subcutenal (sp?) infection; like a whitehead that won't go away or redstreaks eminating out from the sore. Increased size over a period of a few days. More bumps appearing (Staph infection).
Occasionally, I get red spots, about the size of a pencil eraser on my thighs (once or twice a year) and my Doc said they are stress/diet induced.
It could be a variety of things, so the best thing to do: if you are concerned, go to a doctor.
The value of free Bikeforums medical advice is directly equivalent to the amount you paid for it: nothing.

I just got a small case of the 'sores' and Vit A&D ointment took it right out! Except I smelled like a diaper...but some people dig that.

It sounds like a saddle sore.

Another forum member shared a wonderful story about his sister- she ignored a saddle sore about the size of a pea, and it grew into a cyst that needed to be drained at the hospital. After he told me that, I decided to take a few days off and use some of that Preparation H to shrink the sore.

Take that saddle sore seriously and treat it!
