How to use a locked cable lock

When I lost my keys a few months ago, there went the key to a cable lock that I don't think I'd ever even used. The lock is locked, of course, so now it's pretty useless to me, unless you guys and gals can think of something I could use it for!

Carry it with you when you park your bike. If you see someone stealing your bike throw it at them.:D

Twist it up into a multi turn coil.

Spray paint it some obnoxious color.

Find an otherwise usless small dish or container

Place the bright but obnoxious colored unusable cable lock around the dish


Put your keys and other small things that get lost in there to remind you not to loose them again...:)

If you go back to where you bought it I'll bet you can buy another (perhaps with some careful testing) and suddenly find yourself with 2 that respond to the same key.

The wife and I keep sets of keys for each others motor vehicles, she keeps a key to my bike lock, and we both know the numbers to the two combo locks. So next time DG . . .

you might try... a locksmith??? There is one in my town that made one of the round keys for my Kryptonite when I lost it... definitely worth a try-

Otherwise, you could get a bolt cutter and see how long it takes to get through the cable to steal your bike... with pictures, of course, showing us each step and how long it took... and then maybe we'll decide not to buy the brand you have :)

I can't find the keys to an unlocked lock either..
I think they fell out of my bag when I was looking for something else..
I do feel stupid keeping both keys together
at least I didn't lock my bike without the keys

Otherwise, you could get a bolt cutter and see how long it takes to get through the cable to steal your bike...

A bolt cutter is the wrong tool. The straight jaws push the cable out. An electrician's service cable cutter makes real quick work of them. The curved jaws hold the cable in place while you cut it.

I'm too lazy to look right now, but I think Kryptonite has a service where you can send them an locked-up lock and they'll unlock and send it back to you w/a new set of keys. It's $25 or something like that...if my memory is correct and if you have a Kryptonite.

Sounds like, no matter what you do about your current dilemma, the next lock should be a combination lock. I used to always have trouble finding the right key ring etc until I went the combination route.

Write to the manufacture. They can send you another key. They only make "X" number of keys for each lock.

I've thought of that, but I'm having trouble finding a manufacturer's name on the darn lock! Good news is I didn't spend much on it. Bad news is my status as a knucklehead is confirmed, once again.

I find that during gang fights, cable locks have a nice balanced swing in conjunction with adequate stopping power.
