Training & Nutrition - How many days a week to do ab work?

I'm doing a rather simple regimen right now to gain a little core strength in the winter, just been doing some planks, sit ups and crunches lately. I've been doing them every day or almost every day, minus right around Xmas of course.
Right now I'm not really killing myself over them but staying in the habit of being consistant. I'm doing 2 minutes straight of plank hold, 30 sit ups, 30-50 crunches and than some leg raises and other stuff as I feel necessary. Is it best to be doing these every other day, every day, or what?
I read somewhere. I think it was the E-book "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" that professional bodybuilders rest all muscles for 48 hours except calvs and stomach. Those they work out everyday. I don't know why those muscles are the exception.
Your back is part of your core.
I treat and rest my muscles the same.

Every day, 100 sit ups for the last thirty years. I'm sticking to what works for me.
I think 6 days a week is good. Abs you can do very often but atleast give a day or 2 off every once in a while.

I remember reading about a pro bodybuilder who won tons of ab contests. He said he treated them like every other body part, working them just once a week. He probably did a serious ab session tho...
what is best for me may not be best for you. i never do more then two core workouts a week. this is mainly due to the fact that i run and ride the other days and time can be short. 3 to 4 core workouts a week should be sufficient, but do more if you can and less if you need to. later.
I think everyone is different in the way their body reacts to exercise. You need to overload the muscles and let them recover. You also need to work the core from a variety of different angles otherwise it may be strong in one direction but not another
