Thanks, stringbreaker. It's not too bad here yet, and I'm hoping to get out for a ride, at least on the mtb, in the morning. It is raining, though, and if it get as bad as predicted, I'll be staying home.

Thanks, SB. Well, after all day of light rain in Glendale, I came out tonight to torrential downpour. Sherman Oaks is flooding.

Yeah, I just called my dinner date tomorrow and asked him if I could call him tomorrow afternoon to confirm dinner. How pathetic is that? I'm about to reshedule a free dinner because of rain. Only in LA...:p

Okay, I understand putting a bicycle ride on hold because of rain (well not really:p) but why a dinner date?

Because I don't want to drive to the westside in this. I would have to pretty much take canyon roads as the freeways will likely be a mess. It isn't worth it. Besides, he'll wait. We've had dinner before many times. ;)

it still hasn't started down here. some periodic drizzle, but mostly just wind gusts.

Topanga Canyon report: We're getting hit hard. I just drove to the valley and back and there's all sorts of obstacles, boulders, rocks, fast flowing streams amidst the roadway. When I got back a neighbor was just pulling in from a drive up via PCH. He reported that TCB was flooded in the usual location not far from us. Some cars tried to drive through and invariably got stuck, so now there's tow trucks pulling them out.

A few years back a large section of hill along our side canyon slid during a major rain. It nearly choked off all passage for those of us who live further up beyond it. We were warned at one point that we should consider parking on the accessible side of the slide for an indefinite period of time, and to get our cars out now before it's too late. Many did choose to park as suggested. At the same time a water main broke at the base of where the hill was sliding, and the water company took a risk that their equipment and personnel would be safe while they attempted to dig down and fix the pipe in the pouring rain with the hill threatening to catastrophically fall on top of them. Remarkably, they fixed the pipe, and they left one of their tractors and an operator behind to help keep one narrow lane of the badly buckled road clear.
it.

I remember those rains a few years ago. Ugh. At one point I left, and before I got back all the roads going into Topanga flooded or were closed for mudslides. I drove up Tuna Canyon to get back home. That was crazy.

Old Topanga is now littered with debris as always happens in heavy rains. Careful out on the canyon roads, I'm sure Piuma and Latigo are in awful shape now.

I know both my mother (in San Jose) and Mr. East Hill's mother (in Yuba City) were without power yesterday. I haven't talked to me mum (she left a message), and we're a bit worried about Mr. East Hill's mum.

I know that Topanga Canyon is a nightmare when the fires have gone through, and left bare hills for the rains :( , so I hope everyone is all right.

I guess it hit us hard first in the bay area, then moved down south. The north bay (north side of golden gate bridge) was being pelted. The rain let up by around 2 or 3 pm. The news said it stopped just in the nick of time. Otherwise, there would have been a disaster, with the ground being so saturated with water already, that any more would have flooded the infrastructure.

It has been calm since 6 pm, but I'll wait till there's light to see how wet it actually is out there, and maybe I'll be able to get my first ride in of the year.

After a pelting last night and early am, the rain has stopped and it is kind of nice now. Warm with that "just rained" smell.

They say the worst is over ... they had to close many of the bridges because the wind was so strong. We're talking 50-60 mph winds. At Mt. Diablo visitor center, winds were up at 110 mph. Needless to say, Mt. Diablo was closed.

There is a lull in SO as well. I'm going to ride if it stays this way. It's pretty wet out there but no pelting.

Hey guys, I just watched the abc7 doppler and they say that we have a small break in certain areas until the afternoon. So, if you have that break in your areas too, get out on your bikes NOW! I'm going to eat breakfast and then I'm going to go ride around the RB for a bit.. I hope to get a couple of hours in if lucky.

I'll never make it there in time. :( Plus, I don't have the bike spruced. I decided to take it next week. You guys have fun out there!

Riding to the library in a few (to sign my daughter up for storytime) - it's not cold at all outside and it's kinda nice. Watch out for debris, though!

Stay safe, everyone!

I guess I'll go out for the missing ingredients for my chicken tortilla soup. That should put the family in a better mood.

What time should I come over for lunch? :D

EDIT: was it something I said? :o

I'm gonna go riding today just because a rainy day spent indoors is useless without someone to cuddle with. The bf is at a recording session that will last the whole day. *sigh* Also, almost everyone else at my place is sick w/ the flu and I do NOT want to be cooped up with them. They're horribly cranky when they're sick.

You crack me up. Hey, wanna go for a quick ride? I don't bite. :D I'm about to put my spandex on (and it's a fright sight these days) and go over to the Rose Bowl. That's pretty near your barrio, yes? Why don't you come over, and we'll ride a bit and then go get coffee? Roadfix could join too and pose.

That sounds fun, but all I have time for today is a couple of quick bikey errands..

I'm afraid that you will have to wait for my formal BF debut on the 12th just like everybody else...:D ;)

Now THAT will be an awesome day...it's only a week away.

Not sure if I'll actually do the ride. I don't know if I want pictures of my red, swollen, tear-stained face all over the 'net...:o
