Charity Events - Can a solo rider get sponsored?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm getting more and more serious about attempting a cross country bike ride this summer. It is a very personal journey, but if I can do some good by getting sponsored for charity, I'd love to do that.
I'd love for a company to say, "If you complete your journey, we will donate $x amount to the charity of your choice."
Is this possible or are these things typically reserved for actual events?
Check out the crazyguyonabike.com web site, there are several people who have raised money for various charities on their tours.
try Sponsorhouse (http://sponsorhouse.loopd.com/Default.aspx?CMP=BAC-Comp_Cycling)

Be sure to check out www.firstgiving.com They represent tons of groups and also make it easy to raise money for the group(s) of your choice! Hope this helps some.
