the past couple weeks i have been eating healthy. no fast food, lots of vegetables and fresh fruit, whole grains, etc. so i ate mcdonalds for the first time today and i got this sick feeling. literally, i felt sick. it wasn't psychocological like oh man, i just ingested so much fat and calories...i had this uneasy feeling in my body. it felt kind of weird.

No surprise. Many people have the same experience. Once your body becomes use to cleaner foods, you become more sensitive to junk.

If I exercise I crave good foods. If I do not I crave crap.
However, the initial change from healthy to junk does result in what y'all are saying.
The solution is to ride. :)

Kind of like how some people smoke cigarettes for years and feel good about it, than quit, and a month later are sickened by the smell of second hand smoke, eh?

McDonalds makes me feel ill whether or not I'm eating healthy. I can eat all the others Taco Bell, Carl's Jr.(Hardy's, I think thats what you e. coasters call it), Burger King. But McDonalds and Jack in the Box make me ill.

If I eat junk food I get this little yellow spot on the side of my nose within a few hours it's bizarre. McDonalds usually leaves me feeling pretty crappy inside. Also, I swear after eating them late I've woken up depressed the next morning. I think McNuggets trigger depression in me.

I feel 30 years older after eating a few fast food meals. If you want to feel good then avoid every food product that you see on TV. It's amazing how clueless adults are in the US when they pay money to eat the sh*t that they sell in Nutrisystems and other scams.

The other day I had a grease covered grilled cheese sandwich and an order of onion rings from chik-fill-a. I haven't felt that sick in years.

I hate fast food...The exception being In-N-Out they are the only fast food restaurant that doesn't make me feel like a useless blob after eating it.

Egg McMuffin. Guilty pleasure & my only fast food choice. (300 cal, 12 g fat, 5 g sat fat, 30 g carb, 12 g protein)

I decided if I want something 'unhealthy' like fries and a burger, I just make it at home because it won't be as bad as in the restaurant, both greasy-wise and portion-wise. There are a few Chinese restaurants I cannot go to anymore, or I will suffer from gut rot.

yeah. McDonalds all of the sudden will be pretty nasty business.

a single hamburger now and then is no big deal, or egg muffin. but when
you get to the fries, multi-patty burgers, or shakes, then....blaarrgghh

Yes. A naturopath would tell you that it comes from taxing your liver & gallbladder after giving them a bit of a break for a while. Works for me.

Fast food has very strong and simple flavors, mostly from added "natural" and artificial flavorings. Real food has more subtle and complex flavors. I think if you get used to real food the fast food just tastes junky to you.

I can rarely bring myself to eat anything that's deep fried anymore.

Strongly agree. Taste is one of our most malleable attributes (both psychologically and physiologically). Once you set your mind to almost any taste change, it usually only takes a few weeks for it to set in and become your preference, even when overcoming lifelong habits/patterns.

The problem is that most people don't believe this, or don't want to believe it, so they get stuck in the "but I love [whatever], so I'm not going to give it up... life is too short, and I'm going to enjoy it." And they don't realize they could learn to love the healthy alternatives every bit as much. Of course, the fast food companies and snacky cake manufacturers don't mind that most people would rather not take a few weeks to completely alter their tastes.

This is very true. After only eating ground turkey in spaghetti meatballs, etc. eating ones made from beef or pork just don't taste very good anymore. Not to mention I know how much worse they are for me...

Sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit meal...hmmmm. I get one at least once a week (which, classifies me as heavy user).

Normally I eat healthy (I'll leave out the very part), but after some rides I just crave chocolate. Peanut butter cups and butterfinger minis beware! I shouldn't keep them in the house.

I shouldn't keep them in the house.

Not having junk in the house is 99% of the solution IMO.

After a ride I eat what's there; fruit, raisins, nuts, rice protein drink, etc. If there were a box of See's candy sitting on the table, I'd inhale it all (and hate myself later).

It's like being a recovering alcoholic... best to not be around the stuff.

Usually I choose a day to get them all out of the house. Go for a hard ride, then eat 'em all. After 15 peanut butter cups, what does one more matter?:D Then they are all gone till my mother-in-law gives them to me again next Christmas. I've already dumped the hershey's kisses and peppermint patties off at work. My wife was soooo disappointed.

I have just been on a two month binge, eating everything in sight. McDonalds, Burger King, tubs of holiday cookies. Even my home made lunch had an extra helping of snacks - cookies, granola bars etc. Since early November I put on 13 pounds. But there was no stopping me, I felt/feel like a crack addict.

Last night hopefully was the wall or decision point for me. After going out to dinner with my work friends I overate a lot. Not bad stuff, just lots of it. At the end of the meal I finished it up with a helping of chocolate chip bread pudding smothered in heavy cream. I felt so full I could barely walk to the car. At 2 a.m. this morning I woke up in a cold sweat ready to puke. I lay awake for a few more hours without puking until the alarm went off at 5 a.m. when I promptly went back to sleep until my wife shook me awake at 6:30 a.m., already 90 minutes behind schedule. Uh oh. I still felt full from the dinner and rather sick.

Instead of making myself a lunch bag full of snacks I made something healthy instead. Instead of 3 cups of peanut butter Cap'n Crunch for breakfast, I had 1 1/2 cups of wheat chex w/ skim milk. I tell ya, if I can survive the next week or two I will get back to my usual routine. The trick then will be surviving the next 6 coldest weeks of our winter, riding the rollers and watching what I eat.

ya know I've been eating real healthy for nearly a year and I actually can't take most fast foods. not sure what it is, i can do some of the chicken ones but the nasty beef patty burgers, no can do. my vice is jelly bellies now and then, however the true meaning of discipline is when my mom bakes cookies and not sitting down and eating 8 cookies with a bowl of ice cream. now a days when i get an ice cream craving i just throw yogurt in the ice cream maker.

I gotta say -- I hadn't been to a McDonald's in years, but after a recent trip where we got in late and the restaurant of our choice was closed, we walked to the McD's next door. I had the Asian chicken sandwich and a fruit/yogurt parfait. I was really surprised at how good it tasted, and how relatively healthy it was. The salad was a real grilled piece of chicken, greens, carrots, soybeans, oranges and almonds with low-fat dressing. Sodium probably was a bit high, but I have low blood pressure, it's not an issue for me. I don't eat beef or fried foods, so I was impressed that there was something I could eat and feel good about.
