I ride out of Sebastian, FL. Will be starting to commute to work at the middle school where I teach. Well, I call it teaching while others call it play. I teach computer applications, but it centers around media production, which is to me more fun that instructing. During time off from work, I try to ride as much as possible, but always ending up back at home to be with the family. I live off of US 1 (within a mile) and have room for a tent, just let me know in advance so I can warn the homefolks.

I ride in FL too but on the other coast.

Sorry Tom, but I went out for a 34 mile ride yesterday with blue skies and about 65F. Couldn't be nicers.

That was after our cold front came through, Wed, Thur, Fri and we got temperatures where I am at down to 27 overnight but it was back up to over 50 the same day. Great thing about FL, when we get cold weather (not very often), it does not last very long.

I am with Tom, my riding is on my rollers during the crappy weather months. I don't mind the cooler temperatures, but hate the ice and snow and sand and salt. I can handle the rollers, compared to crashing on crappy roads.

Hey Teacher Bill...
My Wife is a Teacher in Stuart, a little south of you.
I like commuting in FL. Im Rt. 1 all the way into scenic
Riviera Beach ( ) Everyday day I can relive the Chariot scenes
from Beh Hur. Quite invigorating :D
Good luck and hit the commuter forum occasionally

Hey Bill, I live in Stuart and ride everyday (10 at work during lunch and 60+ on the weekend) I ride a lot on Jupiter Island with a small group, which is a great place to ride for safety reasons. If you every get down this way, look me up. Getting ready to ride in about 45 minutes, and the current temp is 75 degrees.

Riding in Florida is Great!!!

Sure, if you like flat roads with nice weather in the winter, Florida is wonderful. Summers are a different story, though. It's still flat, but 110% humidity and temps that will sap the life from you.

At least that's the way it was when we were stationed at Eglin AFB when I was a kid. You can really get some speed up on those flats, though.

Hey Bill, live in Jacksonville and while it does on occasion dip to cold type weather, it is nice. ScrubJ lives a little south of you in Vero Beach. Might give him a shout as I know he does a lot of riding and typically goes on a weekend ride. My sister lives in Satellite Beach and I will be taking my bike down with me and ride from Patrick AFB to Ft Pierce Inlet one of these days.

Hi Guys, My Mom has a place in Port Orange and I'm planning on spending a week or so there starting around 1/24. I was there in Nov. and did take my bike and had a great time. I'm going to take my new bike this time and I'm not sure how many miles I can do pain free until I get used to the road bike. I've been riding my Cannondale hybrid for several years and decided it's time to graduate. The only trouble is I have a 50 year old Clydesdale body, lol. I did manage to ride the new bike 12 mile the day I got it, about a week and a half ago. Of course I was wearing winter gear and it was 42 degrees out. I'm hoping I can wear shorts and no more than a sweat shirt in FL. Anyone in the Daytona, New Smyrna Beach area?

Since a few of us are in the southern area of Florida, what would you think about meeting in Jensen Beach at "Wendys" for a Frostee? It is about 50 miles from my house and makes a good spot to grab a cold one before the return ride home. I could ride up to Mims but that is about 80 from the house and that would put me over the limit for my sanity.

Hi all, yeah I live in Florida too, in Winter Haven, and Florida is great for riding. But like the other poster said, the heat and humidity in the summer is killer.

Good mountains there, too!

Ok, maybe not. I'd love to have some warm weather for an extended period. We've had a few days around here that have been nice, and I've been on the road for work for every one of them.

I'm tempted to visit just so I can go by the place called Cummings on the map. Twenty year ago I heard that hill training in Florida meant doing repeats on freeway overpasses :).

Still is. That and riding into a head wind.

If you travel to an area a little west of Orlando, along RT 27 going north, you can create a "rolling hill" type ride. But still no mountains as in North Carolina or out west.

I'll take hills over wind..atleast you can see the hill and you know what you're in for and you get to coast down the other side.
