Foo - Tired of it all.

As I look back on 2007 it seems that it was a year of tribulation. 2007 was a year that I saw 18 of my closest friends from the military come home in boxes. Never to share an email or phone call again. I have had the rare opportunity to know what divorce feels like. It is not something you really want to write home about.

I sit here and think about what the hell happened to the simpler times. Gone are the days when all you had to do was be yourself. Now it seems that everyone wants you to be what their perception of you is. These are the times of being politically correct. Fear of being sued for infinging on someone elses rights, beliefs, thoughts runs rampant. Nobody Cares. Patriotism has become an excuse for some to dwell on the past and a crutch for others to deal in their own version of civilian justice. Obesity is on he rise, but has somehow become the fault of fast food restaraunts. Ours is a country of excesses and abused freedoms. When did America become the land of the greedy and the home of the trivial. people just dont suck it up and grow a pair anymore. They get lawyers and sue you into oblivion. America has the worst case of "keeping up with the jonses " I have ever seen.

Everything seems to be about status anymore. I recall a particular bumper sticker I saw a few days ago..."He who dies with the most toys...still dies." does it get any simpler than that? It would be interesting to see what would happen if we did run out of oil. I have come to the conclusion that the poeple who have lived without for so long would be the ones who flourish in that society. If suddenly there was no electricty it would be the vagabonds who would be king. The undesirables who have spent so long with nothing. The ones who have lived without who would survive.

It would be interesting if there was no internet tomorrow. If credit cards and social security ceased to exist. If electricity ceased to be and we were all plunged into medieval times once again. Would you survive? Do you have the skills to survive without a cell phone or triple a? I am just tired of the pettyness the whiny little kid mentality that has overpopulated this culture.

I apologize for just ranting like this. It has been a rough day.

Hang in there and remember life is what YOU make it not what others do or say. You can't bring your friends back but I am sure they would want you to have a good life. Its Ok to have a bad day and grieve just don't turn it into a habit.

I hear what you are saying. It is upsetting to see so many take for granted what they have and only want more. I know being upset about it won't bring my friends back but...remembering what they gave up helps me to keep from becoming one of the moronic pantywastes that parts of our culture tend to produce nowadays.

Oooohhhh... concept.. what if the people elected 2 presidents... 1 Democrat 1 Republican to rule in office for a shared presidency. That way democrats cant blame republicans and vice versa. But they have to learn to work together in order to accomplish anything. The idea behind it is awesome the concept might prove to be impossible.

I feel the same as you about our society, but I suppose all you can do is live the best way you know how and if we're all plunged into chaos then just sit back and watch the "normals" try to cope. It's hard not to dwell on it sometimes. Also, I'm terribly sorry to hear of your losses for the year. Very, very much so. :(

Ohhhh to live back in the day. I often time think with the same mindset as you. There are so many people that cannot see what it's like to be without. CRtreedude wrote something pretty cool on living where he is and enjoying the simple life.

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be a young adult in the fifties. Where mom stayed at home, Dad worked 8-5 and was always home for dinner. Stores were closed on Sundays and people waved from their front porches. Leave it to Beaver days.

But they had their own set of problems. Work conditions were worse, diversity wasn't as tolerated. Racial tensions were very high but hidden. Yada yada.

In today's world, it's all "me me me" and instant gratification. A world of disposables. Where nowadays appreciation of things doesn't exist.

It's sad, really. Everyone is on the go.

But remember something. There are people like you who think like this. People like me. People HERE on BF who do see things that way still. These people still exist. And with that is what they were brought up on, believe in and dream about. And hope that one day things will start to mellow out and come back to basics.

There's still a lot of people like us. Which means it ain't so bad after all. :)

On that note, I think I am going to take the next 4 days off and go for a few epic rides. Hopefully the weather cooperates.

Did you do something for someone else without even thinking about a reward?

The 'good old days' exist RIGHT NOW. You can't control what happened yesterday--that's done. Work on making tomorrow better, and make someone else's day better too.
