Unreal... it might be 60 degrees on Tuesday (50s tomorrow)!

I'm going to Eastern Long Island tomorrow, will do about 40 miles along 25A (thru Rocky Point).

Global Warming is real... enjoy it. :)

With any luck I'll head across the GWB to Alpine and back then head to work.

Far enough to not have access to my bike! :(

My Uni is in South Orange, NJ (take a wild guess which one) and that area's not too nice anyway, especially being so close to Newark.

If I could find an easy way to keep my bike on campus I totally would. As long as it wouldn't creep my friends out. :D

Warm Weather Day One - Not so good

I'm out east (LI) and went out ready to put on some miles. It went something like this:
- feel down in the garage trying to reach my bottle in the fridge, while clipped in...
- forgot my "sun" glasses... decided not to go back for them...
- weather turned out to be damp and windy (around 42F)...
- had a flat from a tiny-tinny piece of glass
- manage to get only about 90psi in the tube from my last CO2...
- cracked my cleat after 5 steps on the pavement :(

- went back home with a soft tire and a semi-clipped shoe.

20 miles at 16mph... :o Now I'm really looking forward to Tuesday!

:)

Warm day 1, 3 laps of CP, my toes were freezing, so an extra 6 miles on the west side greenway. Tomorrow up to Hunter Mtn for spring skiing in January!

I did a few laps around prospect park and headed home. It was really damp and cold.
Tomorrow's a diffferent story. At least 10 degrees warmer and sunnier.
I have the day off and may head for the g.w. and a ride up 9W.

I live in SO and when I first moved here I gave up cycling for several years after being discouraged by the local roads/drivers. After some time I was determined not to let it get me down, so I have worked out various routes where I can get in a good 30-35 miles leaving from my house. The key is to head west; if you don't want to ride directly over the South Mountain Reserve, ride over to Millburn and ride up Wyoming (a less head-on attack on the hill) or cut through the reserve via Cherry Lane. Yesterday I did a nice 50 miler by going thru Short Hills over to Chatham and then around the Great Swamp and back. Why would keeping your bike on campus creep your friends out?

Might have something to do with lycra. :D

I also don't have a place to keep it on campus (and I don't even have a lock for it). If they made me keep it outside on a post I'd say "fine, forget it." It's my only bike.

Wish I knew where all those roads you're talking about are. The only thing I've gone off-campus for was to hit up Rite Aid for batteries and to take the train to Maplewood to run sound for their environmental day.

(On a slightly related note - on move-in day I saw a rider in full Team Colavita kit. That's one of my choices for a team.)

48 and climbing...
I'm working today, but tomorrow I'll be off, and its supposed to get into the 60's!
I'll get on the LIE service road starting in Little Neck around 1PM.

Happy riding!

Emergency babysitting ended my plans.
Hope you have better luck.
Enjoy the great weather!

HAHA, same here! :D My wife had a 40-mile long list of chores for my day off... mmmm... 40 miles

I did get to go out, and the weather was perfect, but 10 miles is just a tease! Trying to go out late-aft tomorrow.

Hoping for better luck next heat-wave!

Ack - good luck with the surgery.

Steve - you didn't bring the Marlin? ;) Should be able to rent a bike somewhere - just be careful how you ask, may wind up in a hotel room tied up and naked wondering what the heck you said  ;)

College is about learning - school some of your friends about lycra! I have some SHU students living on my street and they look at me like I'm an alien as I sit on my porch putting on my cleats, etc. When I was in college we had some underutilized 'luggage' rooms in the dorms where our RA let us lock our bikes (he even managed to get us a few keys so we could get in when he wasn't around). Did a bit of winter roller riding during the winter in the laundry room - that got some strange looks.

If I can find some time I'll use mapmyride or such to make a route or two leaving from SO and send it to you.

Thanks jemoryl. I actually just finished a 31 minute, 7 mile (wow I'm slow :D ) "last ride" before going back to SHU, which I'll be doing in about half an hour.
Bike is staying home.
Goodbye winter break\temporary warm weather. :(
