View Full Version : It's Meeeelllllllttttiiinnngggg or How Are the Trails Around Town?
I picked up my bike from the shop today, all tuned up, cleaned and happy. I'd love to get out for a ride tomorrow if the weather holds out. Anyone been on the Platte or Cherry Creek Trails (or any other central denver trails) in the last couple of days? Are they clear and dry for the most part?

Cherry Creek Trail in the Parker area is clear, unless we get snow tonight. I rode yesterday, and also met 4 other riders,

I commuted on the cherry creek through downtown last Wed before the melt. It was fine for my mountain bike... a tad icy with snowpack. Since the melt that basically cleared my street in one day, you should be fine.

I commute via the Platte from Wash Park out to Wads/Quincy area. It has icy patches in the usual shady spots just off the bridges and in the shade. Way better than earlier this week! I'm even rolling out the old Panasonic for tomorrows commute at 5am...
rode the cherry creek with my bro on sat from downtown to the res. Got soaked the hole way. Path was wet with lots of icy snowy spots. The res roads were very dry which was nice. Didn't see to many other people out. Anyone ridden clear crk or bear crk???

Not I.
I took the platte from 88th to Union Station and all was fine. I almost felt like an idiot for bringing my MTB.
However, I took the light rail to broadway and decided to ride the back roads to Orchard. They are generally fine with a bit of ice on the sides. If it snows tonight I would rather be on my MTB instead of my skinny tired fixed gear. I hope it snows. It would be nice to play.

Clear Creek was pretty clear on Friday from Wadsworth to Youngfield with just a little pack at Kipling.
Cherry Creek was a wet sloppy mess from Confluence to the Dam. Near 4-mile House, it was better riding Cherry Creek Drive on the south side than riding the path.

I'll tell you how the paths are now: SNOWY! :D
Just got back from splitting lanes for about 5 miles on Colfax/Simms/Union passing all the cars that were bumper to bumper moving about 2 mph. Fun stuff!

Yes, it was pretty fun out there. However, riding out of the tech center at dusk in a snowstorm leads to DJ being a tad paranoid. Things improved when I hit the cherry creek. Too bad I forgot my rain pants and did my ride home in jeans. I ended up with a nice coating of ice and snow. :p
Good times. At least I was not stuck on 270. :p
anyone ride today (sat) headed down the hill to ride sunday. Wondering if bear creek platte and clear creek are somewhat dry and clear?
Saturday - I rode from the CC mall to Confluence on the CC trail then north on the Platte to the Sandy Creek. All were dry and clear for the most part. The gravel section of the Sandy Creek, just as you get off the Platte, was MUD and I had to walk most of it. It was just WAY too soft for a road bike.

Has anyone ridden the C-470 trail between Bowles and Golden, or Bowles and Chatfield for that matter?

Just did a wonderful 2.5 hour ride on our local plowed Parker trails. They were all in great condition.
Nothing like being able to ride your bike around denver in january. Things are in pretty good shape, compared to a year ago??? Did a loop from golden, red rocks, bear creek, platte, and clear creek. One of my favorite rides in colorado. Bear creek trail from below the dam to the platte is in pretty rough shape in places, thought I was a hero and bit the dust behind mojo wheels. Ice and little tires??? duh. That area is the worst part of the trail, behind all those stores. The platte is in great shape, clear creek was in really good shape too. Thought it might be a mess like bear creek. Talked to another guy who rode c470 path and said it was in good shape from golden to chatfield. Thought I was up for a record time for the loop when I hit downtown....... but I was off by a few minutes in the end, I'll blame it on the ice and a detour where bear creek meets the platte.
