Foo - Just to let peoples know.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I haven't been posting as much I know. I'm sorry if you miss my silly, fruitcakish, pictures(or not), but methinks that is a thing of the past. I've been trying alot to weed down on coming to BF because there is something in the short term future(well not for awhile), that will leave me without internet for 2 years. I plan on going on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. I most likely won't be able to put in my papers till summer, or summer's end. But I'm trying to get my life in order, and establish some decent habits that don't involve peeing on the toilet seat. Na'mean? Lately, I've been going to church, hanging with friends, and hanging with the GF. I also have been going to the gym, and working on building my upper body. Also, the spin machines are practically like a bicycle, cept you don't have to deal with the elements! I love it. I really hope 2008 is a time for me to actually accomplish some goals, ones that don't involve resolving NOT to make goals like all of you lazy bums. :p New years was awesome, I wore a pink dress shirt with matching pink shoe laces and went into SF for the fireworks. We couldn't find a parking spot and came promptly back to go to a party. It was an interesting time. I just wanted to wish everyone a super kewl year, and to stay strong and to drink your daily dose of mango slurpee!
If you're going to be sans internets (or internet-lite) for two years, cutting back probably ain't a bad plan. But don't be a stranger.
Any idea where you're getting sent? I hear there are some heathens in Utah... ;)

Wow. You really want those special undies pretty bad, huh?
You know I'm just messin' with ya, Jon. :p Good luck to you. I'm just glad that you finally came to a solid decision regarding this. I want you to know that I'm here for you in support of your decision.....
Wait. I'm talking like you are going tomorrow or something. Oh hell. You have my phone number.

Pretty cool Jon. I always envy those who are smart enough to make bold decisions in their youth. Most don't and regret it.
No idea where I'd get sent X, this is the beginning of the preparation process. Won't even get my papers in for 7-8 months. Won't leave for 9-10 months, so it's a ways off. I'd only know where I'm going once I get my call which won't be until the submittal of the papers.
Thanks Siu. It's nice to have support. :)
and Alfster, regardless of religious beliefs going on a mission(it has been shown), has strengthened so many young men in organization, power of will, and many other strong character traits. Everyone I've ever talked to has never regretted going, but many have regretted NOT going.

Well just don't lose my number when you go. Or I'll call your mom and bug HER.
(She'll make ya call...:D)
2 calls per year(mother's day and christmas) allowed, only to family members. :D
Snail mail or email is how I'm gunna have to roll, na'msayin?
I always envy those who are smart enough to make bold decisions in their youth. Most don't and regret it.Definitely. Even if it's just getting out there and doing something. I'm just now getting into such things, and I wish I had started years ago. It helps to be around people who inspire you to do such things, I suppose, but still.

No better time than right now eh? :D
I wasted the last year and a half thinking. Now it's time to act. Sure everyone I know is long gone on their missions, and I won't see em for even longer now, but I know it will be worth it.
No better time than right now eh? :DYep.

You didn't WASTE a year and a half. You came to a decision naturally. When it was right for you. If you would have rushed it, it would suffer ramifications.
Then email me.

Freudian slip? :D
Seriously, good luck wherever you end up and don't be too much of a stranger.

Congratulations Jon. I wish you peace of mind and much success showing your other Brothers and Sisters that huge light you always seem to carry around.

We won't convert, but you can sure try ;) You'll always be welcome here, younger Bro. :D
By the way, you'll get to do a lot of riding on Mission :D
If it does turn out to be here, I'll PM you my number. :D

Good luck, Jon. Would you please do us all a favor and teach your fellow missionaries safer ways of riding a bike in traffic areas? They can be really scary sometimes...
All the best Jon and God speed!!!:)

Donna, do you want all the Mormon Missionaries to be crashing their bikes ?:p
I'd ask Jon to teach those guys some bike maintenance skills (squeak! squeak! squeak!), but, uhh... It's Jon.
Wow --- .... I've not been party to someone personally who has pursued a religious interest. More power to ya J. And I also have to add that I truly wish that I had pursued my original love of cooking back in the late 70's - went to school (on my own) with a semi-family blessing of going to school for art (family was rather unsupportive) - but really wanted to go for cooking. Went to school for art for a couple semesters, found the party life and kinda left the college scene - little interest - the school especially held no interest for me. Blah.
And still all these years later - I truly wished I went the food route. Even my Mom is behind me now - little late to aspire to what I wanted to be - so my cooking aspirations are contained to family stuffs and some catering jobs, etc.
Yer a youngster there J, follow your heart and you'll truly enjoy the benefits. Be who you want to be and not what other's think you should be. Be you and enjoy it. Oh yeah, and keep riding those pinky bikes :D

erm. Donna? Did you miss the whole "Jon, you should wear a helmet" thing a year ago? Or the pop-a-wheelie-on-a-carbon roadie episode? Or the slow motion over-the-bars trick witnessed by Bikingshearer?
Jon? You really should leave your bikes here and go by foot.

Agreed. This a decision that shouldn't be hurried. You waited until you were sure. Nothing wrong with that. I just want to ride with you before you go.
No worries Scott I'll still be around for in my estimation 3/4s of a year, possibly a bit longer. :p

Anyone that's 'surprised' by Provincetown deserves to be surprised. You'd have to live under a rock not to know that it is queerer than Frisco and New Hope together. :)

How exciting!! Maybe you'll make it here in Kyoto. There are many here. I raced two, about two months ago up Karasuma Dori. Are you allowed to have a pink helmet or do you have to have the white ones? :)

Black bikes, white helmets.
Goes with the black pants, white shirt, black shoes, white socks, black tie.
Zebra effect.
Good luck! If you're sent to Seattle--you will need it!

Good luck with it, Jon. And I'm glad you seem to have finally found peace within you about this. :)
By the way, has anyone ever created a line of bike clothing for the niche market of missionaries? Imagine: moisture-wicking white shirts, black trousers with quality chamois, dress shoes with recessed cleats.... Jon, you might be able to start your own company when you return! :p
If you wind up in NC, I don't need to tell ya to look me up. :)

About 5 years back, we had no idea. The guide book described it as "Bohemian", which really could be taken more than one way. It was colorful and interesting, worth a look-see, but not a place I'd care to hang about in.

White socks!?!?! That's not a missionary rule, that's a major fashion faux-pas. Colored ties, bicycles and helmets are allowed here. Probably couldn't get away with a pink helmet though. :o

Well, then, please pass the feedback up the chain of command, Zorro, because I only ever see the white socks, too.
How about an understated pink stripe in the tie?

Hey Jon congrats on the decision. It is not a decision to be taken lightly. I have to wait till I can be a senior missionary.I got involved way to late in life to do it now.
I am with you that everyone I have spoken to never regretted going. Let us know what happens between now and then or you can just pm me. I honestly would like to know.
Sucks to be y...oops, I mean congratulations! :p Have fun doing whatever it is you'll be doing.
