Mountain Biking - New Speedball New Speedball Yay Yay Yay Yay

Is awesome. Greatest upgrade that anyone could ever put on their bike. Makes descending very steep hills way more fun and controlled. The rail clamp is of poor design though.... If you smash your ass onto the rear of the seat then it'll push the seat down to near vertical. Another tool to carry. Otherwise, it's great, and tought me to not smash my ass.

@Cheeto, a more correct explanation would be.... I guess, a teloscopping seatpost that can be adjusting whilst riding. 80mm of travel.

Also, it looks like Crank Bros. has some licesnsing agreements with Cane Creek ("DirectSets") and Maverick ("Javelin", or "Joplin" or something). The DirectSets look like original headsets from them, although the Javelin is either a super obvious knockoff of the Speedball or a licensed copy.... in orange.

Crank Brothers licensed the non-threaded headset concept so their preload works like it's supposed to. The cup as inner bearing race is all them.

I have a gravity dropper and I absolutely love it. To me it made more of a difference in my riding than any other upgrade I have made. I wouldn't use it for xc racing, but any mountain biking style I feel it is extremely beneficial.

I think their pretty similar now that both companies offer remote versions, but the GD has optional 4" of travel versus the Speedball's 3".

I also think the GD has a different clamp design. The SB's sucks major ass. My seat kept of tilting if I sat to hard on the rear (I'm not a Clyde- 100 #'s, so weight isn't the issue). The SB's clamp uses one hex bolt to secure the rails horizontally, if that makes sense. The guy's at my LBS predicted the suckage but I ignored them.

Also, the SB/Joplin is available only in 30.9 and 31.6, whereas the gravity dropper and AMP are available in 27.2 and up with shims. This will likely change since Crank Brothers is working on making the Joplin available in smaller sizes. Also, the Speedball is hydraulic and is infinitely adjustable whereas the AMP and GD are spring-loaded and have set drops. There's some other differences too but those are the biggies.

I do think I mis-spoke though. It's the cup acts as the outer bearing race, not the inner.
