Bicycle Mechanics - Downtube shifters for 10 spd Campy?

Building up a new frame soon and I'm planning to go with new Campgnolo Centaur. Thing is, I'm very keen on using down tube shifters. I notice Campy still makes a bar-end shifter. What options do I have? Will older shifters work with 10 spd?

If it won't offend your Campy purity ;) Shimano makes Dura Ace 10-speed downtube shifters (SL-7800) that you could use.

I've heard reports that 10-speed Campy and Shimano are adequately compatible as-is or you could guarantee they work together by adding the appropriate Jtek Shiftmate.

If you are willing to settle for friction shifting, almost any downtube shifter will work.

Hi... hope you dont want to use the index and you willl use the shifters in friction mode. THe reason is because for sure the shimano index wont fit campy at all, secondly indexing sucks :P thats for people who doesnt know how to use the shifters right (sorry im old school).

So far i tested like zillion of years ago, u should be able to use any downtube shifter, anything should work fine. Its the RD the one that will set the limits, not the down tube shifter thing.

Branford Bike has the Le Tour adaptor you use Campy barcons as DT shifters. Actually, when you take the rubber covers of the barcons they basically look like the old DT shifters. Problem is that Le Tour plus barcons is fairly expensive. Good luck

Campagnolo doesn't currently offer 10spd DT shifter but, as someone already pointed out, the bar ends will work. You will need to look at Record for a brake lever. That is the only one currently available if you want to stay all Campy.

I rode bikes for many years with DT shifters (30+ years). When I went to ergo shifters I was amazed at how great they were especially in climbing. You can shift more ofter and easier. I wouldn't go back to DT for anything. Try eBay for DT shifters and make sure you get ones indexed for 10spd. If you find ones for 8 or 9spd I believe that the indexing ring that is used in the bar end shifters is the same for the DT ones.

Think about the campy barend shifters instead of DT.
Just out of curiosity is it the retro look you are interested in????
