So as I got ready to leave to meet my friend for a group ride on the flat Western Maryland Rail trail my wife asks, "when will you be back?" I respond with something like "its only going to be a 20 mile ride so I should only be on the bike 2 hours plus the drive, see you by 4 PM."
Fast forward to 4:27 where I'm peeling out of the parking lot and calling to say I'm on my way since we ended up going a little longer. My 20 mile expected ride had turned into a very enjoyable 44.7 mile ride. That was the longest ride I have done since summer of 2005 when I rode a metric century at the Cumberland Valley Century ride. So much for gradually building up from my 11 mile rides to longer rides gradually, whoops!
I broke my long term goal of 2,000 miles down by month and my goal for Jaunary was a paltry 50 miles. So after 3 rides and less than 1 week I've hit 66.9 miles.
The really cool thing about today's ride was that I finished faster than I started. I was tired, but it was only my still soft backside that really complained over the course of the ride. We took three short breaks to bring the group back together so it was roughly 3.5 hours total time and a 16.3 mph speed. When I was told it was going to be the full trail (22+ each way), I was a little worries I'd blow out badly at some point, but it just went really well. I had a blast talking and riding with a friend and three members of a TNT team who used it as a trianing ride.
So 66.9 miles down and 1933.1 to go.
I'll start worrying about where I am on my wieght goal in February once I get in a routine with riding.:)
