Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm headed in for knee surgery tomorrow (ACL) and will be down and out for a while. It will be some time before any of the bikes are out of the stable. I have a few projects to work on when I am able, but I thought I would post pictures of my bikes to keep me entertained during my recovery. I decided to start tonight as I will likely be in no mood to do it tomorrow.
Here's some flash to begin with. This is a Gitane TDF that I picked up from a fellow whose brother collected bikes before his health failed. The conversion work was done prior to my ownership. Braze-ons were added and the bike was repainted and outfitted with "modern" components. It needed tires, handlebars, wrap, and cables. It came with a titanium honey Brooks swift that was probably worth the purchase price alone, but it's a little narrow for me. I added the decals to finish it off. It's a smooth riding machine.

Beautiful bike!

I had mine in Febuary '03.

If I include the wife's and kid's lugged steel I could cover a week or two. Are there limits on days or photo posts? I've been a regular viewer but not a big poster.
Keep posting! Those pics are awesome, great examples of vintage cycles. Nice job with the photography also.

There's a 10 image per post limit. I wasn't asking because there's a problem though. I was just curious to see how many of those sweet bicycles you had.

Best wishes for a rapid rehab and recovery from your surgery. The bikes are great -- keep posting!
Great pics! And love your bikes. Keep 'em coming! I'm enjoying the detailed macros of the components. The Shimano 600 group on the Bridgestone brings back memories. I used them to help build a racer for my brother in the 80s. Good stuff!
As for posting pics online, you can also create a free Photobucket.com account for yourself and upload pics there, and then link them to anywhere.
May you make a speedy recovery.

Only limit is that you can't put more than ten images in one post (and that includes emoticons).
The sky is the limit otherwise ;) , and you're doing a great job with those beautiful bikes!

December '03 here ... recuperation, and the indoor rehab which follows, are only made worse by bright sunshine and warm days.
When will the docs let you up on a trainer? And will you be out on the road for this summer's riding season?
Best of luck with your surgery and a speedy recovery! :D

I'm back with another installment. This time a 1984 Trek 420 I picked up recently and refurbished. Paint and decals turned out to be in great shape underneath the grime, and it came with the rack and bags. A definite catch of the day. I made some upgrades from my parts bin and switched it over to 700c wheels. I went all out with new fenders so I can handle the rain when I ride again. Almost too tall for me but I have enough clearance and the reach to the bars is fine. It should be a good workhorse.

This is great stuff, I'm now rushing to my computer after my trainer workout to see the bike o' the day! I hope you have enough rides to keep us entertained for awhile. Kudos again on the pics, your detail shots are spot on, well lit, and pin-sharp...if that Trek is too big for you I'd be happy to take it off your hands. Got a price in mind?

Page two already! This is a good diversion for me. Regarding the Trek 420, the paint and decals are original. And I'm not ready to sell it yet. It's hard to let a nice ride go.
Here is a bonus Bianchi for today, a nice little japanese number from the late 80's. All 105 components but with Campagnolo rims!

I like the Bianchi, but I am biased.

It's time for some real biking studs! These are the guys I will be struggling to keep up with over the next few years. I was able to pick up both of these bikes off the local Craigslist, $20.00 for the Shogun and $100.00 for the Rodriguez (not a typo). My younger boy and I stripped down and rebuilt the Shogun together. Sure beats video games.

Here's one for you morning viewers. I've heard this Schwinn referred to as a "poor man's Paramount" on this site, but posting all these bikes has made me feel a bit like a wealthy braggart.
I liked the lug work on this frame - some nice details all around. I built it up with a mix of Dura-ace/600 gear from different years, but it all seems to fit.

Nice bikes. I had one of those Shogun Selectras 700c/24" front come through my hands too. I bought it off the local CL for $20 as well. I finished it and never thought I would sell a bike that small. I was wrong I got so many emails on that bike and it sold in two days on the local CL.

Beautiful bikes and some equally beautiful pictures of some classic lugged beauties.
More ?
man....I could really develop an unhealthy dislike for you. I mean, isn't there some law about the maximum number of cool bikes a guy can own? Isn't it your duty to return some to the general cycling population? I gotta check the velo bylaws.
Still can't wait to check tomorrow though.... neat to see that they're all actually ridden also.
Oh, and if you need room in your garage (or barn, so it seems) I'd also be happy to relieve you of that absolutely gorgeous Schwinn...pure class.

Poprad, I may be breaking an ancient velo law but I refuse to feel guilty. Both the bikes and I could do far worse, I suppose.
Here's one by the three brothers. It is probably a Columbus SP frameset since it uses a 27mm post. I picked this frame up from a fellow who was using it as a singlespeed. It took a lot of rehab and counseling for her to change gears, but she's turned her life around.

Wow InTheShop. Another beaut. I hate to even ask....but how many rides do you maintain (I hate to say "own" since all we do is care for them for the next generation)? Unless you want that to be a surprise.
Oh, and once again very nice job with the pics...what are you shooting them with?

The Trek looks like it has a 24T inner chain ring with a 32-34T large cog. Couldn't ask for more on a loaded tour with big hills--a 28T cog on the rear worked pretty well for me with the old T/A (in my case a Mighty Tour) crank sets with their small inner rings and downtube friction shifting. I had a Huret Duopar rear derailleur that had no problem soaking a lot of chain.

You forgot to mention the campagnolo mixed in on the schwinn. The nuts on the center bolts of the brakes are late model super record. Oh yeah sweet collection and a very nice job on the basso especially. Did you buy those cobalto brake levers NOS? Actually now that I think of it... would they have issued those levers with late model super record?

Thanks all. The wife has not said it yet, but I may have too many. Believe it or not I have fixed up and sent quite a few back out there. The chances of me wearing out a bike are slim.
Cyclotoine - I hadn't spotted that. Those brakes came off of a Cannondale that donated a bunch of Campy parts. It had quite a mix that ended up on several different bikes.
The pictures are all done with an older Sony Cybershot 4.1. It is the subdued Northwest outdoor lighting that deserves the credit on the pictures. My shots taken inside aren't as good. The shine comes from fine steel wool and sometimes a metal polish.
I posted a series of this bike in Classic/Vintage rides, but thought it should be included here as well. I'll be back tomorrow with a new one.

This one is cool. I picked this up as a frame with the fenders and racks for from a local bike guy. It was too big for him and he parted it out, passing the frame along at a bargain. I couldn't help myself and hung some new parts on it - cranks, brakes, bar/levers as you can see. I usually try to salvage parts or pick up what I need from the $5.00 part bins at the local Recycled Cycles. Quite a mix with Suntour Cyclone/dura-ace drive train, new shimano brakes, and a sweet 27" wheelset with high flange suntour hubs and Weinmann concave rims. It's great for day trips, and I toured Lopez Island in the the San Juans on it with my wife this past summer.
