Bicycle Mechanics - Help Please...!!!! Brake Lever Scratch

I got myself a brand new 07 Allez expert triple (full ultegra bike) for a great price (this is my first road bike and first one with cleat pedals), and was very ecstatic. But I ended up falling from my bike a mile after picking it from my dealer as I could not get my shoes off in time to prevent hitting a car at a stop signal.

The result is painful , bike has scratches, and the Ultegra Brake Level paint has chipped away revealing the surface, and the gloss is gone..

Is there a way to make it look like this never happened..the dealer suggested applying a silver nail polish and that it should not affect the performance.

It would be great if you can give me any additional options for covering up this...

Try the nail polish. Yes, it's brand new but it will get scratched again. Try to learn to live with it before you go mad.

Uuuugggg, I JUST did the same thing to my brand new Christmas present today. Scratched my break lever as well on a stupid drop. As much as I am kicking myself for it, I'm hoping this is it for drops - got it out of the way. I really like my bike and plan on keeping it; scratches are all part of the miles and experiences....but i'll probably try the nail poish too.

I used to use nail polish a lot. When my wife started borrowing the polish from my bike tool box, I decided to live with the paint scratches on the bikes. Also, I think she was wondering if I was trying to hide something from her by keeping the stuff with my bikes.















Good thing I hid the eyeshadow and mascara is my seat bag.:o;)

There are some airplane paints from hobby shops or you could try a local car dealer. The car dealers usually have small containers of touchup paint you can purchase. Just find a silver car that matches your brake levers and try and buy some touchup paint to match.
I provided a lot of entertainment to motorists when I first switched over to clipless pedals. All part of the training process.

Good thing I hid the eyeshadow and mascara is my seat bag.:o;)

The trouble I have matching paints is that I have to get four or five because my ability to remember a shade in the shop is very poor... unless I have the thing with me... and a bike being wheeled through a department store or model shop isn't de rigeur.

Anyway, model paints with a moderately fine, pointed camel hair model paint brush and a few shades of silver paints should get you what you want. I've tried the nail polish route and actually recommended it, but it fades differently to the original paint.

I sympathise. I "fell" into a huge pothole in the rain uphill at 3.5km/h on my brand new Merida roadie -- three hours after picking it up. Fortunately, no damage was done except to ego.

Nail polish? Great! Don't forget to get your legs waxed! .:D

Auto parts stores like Pep Boys have this at better prices and wider selections.

Take the bike in to match the color.

I got myself a brand new.............

No child left behind at it's finest. Nail polish works best.

Scratch? The solution is easy: time for a new bike.
