Introductions - getting back into cycling - SF bay area (mid-peninsula)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As the title says, I've been getting back into cycling in a more serious way. Started mt. biking last year, which is a kick, but also doing some road cycling again. A big motivator is that my soon-to-be 17 yo son has (finally!) got the cycling bug, after my buying and fixing up a $30 Peugot road bike for him last year. He connected with road cycling in a way that he never did with the various BMX and Mt. Bikes he owns. I got him a huge upgrade last spring, and myself one a few weeks ago.
It has been fantastic to discover this thing that I love that we can do together. He's a natural athlete, with major-league soccer quads and conditioning, so it is more than I can manage to even keep up with him - but that is a joy in itself. I'm sure you parents will understand that one.
All for now,
sunburst (it's a guitar thing)

Hi sunburst, good to hear that there's a parent/child love of cycling there :) . Check out the regional forums for the Northern California locals. What city are you in? There's probably a member or two with a couple of miles of you.

Mountain View, and I am looking for a club that my son, or both of us, can join. He's ready for a challenge.
He's partial to Alta Velo, because he sees their cool green outfits in the surrounding foothills when we're out. I'm almost certain that is not a club I will ever be ready for, but I am up for some group rides.
Funny thing, I live in a typically small California house, on a small lot, on a small street, and there are 5 serious cyclists from my house (mid-block) down to the corner. Amazing! So anyway, I'm thinking about starting a small neighborhood group.

If nothing else, perhaps you can encourage those other cyclists to join up (if they aren't already members, that is :) ).
The Northern California forum will certainly help you find a no drop group ride, and get you going with the basics.
