Hi all,
I'm a newbie in the group. I'm 53 years old in central Ohio and have returned to cycling after a 30 year hiatus. This may I was 6'4" and 325 lbs and decided that if I didn't change I wouldn't be around long. I put a month and a half on a stationary bike and then bought a Schwin MTB from one of the box stores (I figured that at my weight why ruin a real bike). I started out with the goal of being able to commute 14 miles to work by fall and by July was able to round trip the 14 in about an hour and ten minutes.
I'm now down to 250 lbs and :50 minutes average on the time, with a best time of :44 minutes. I've managed to keep up the daily commute rain or shine or snow. I've only missed three days, 2 because of being scared off by the morning news reporting on how bad the roads were and one because of the 40 mph gusts.
My goal is to be at 200 lbs by June and buy a road bike. Also, I'm planning a 120 mile trip in the spring and a 480 mile in late fall.
