View Full Version : Warmer winters sure are screwing up the winter fun!

We had a couple nice snow storms last week and some moderately cold weather for a few days. Yesterday the snow all melted in the 8 hours I was at work--literally. Today it's over 60 degrees. We not only beat the record high temp, we beat it by TEN freekin' DEGREES!

How am I going to get my winter time jollies if this keeps on happening?!

don't worry in 5-10 years the sun will go into yet another part of a long cycle
and we will hit a fast ice age. NASA said so.

same weather here in CT Roody. the winter came on strong with lots of fun snow to play in (snowshoeing yay!), and today it's going to be in the 60s. i busted out the Harley today.

I thought it was fantastic! I loved it here in Cleveland yesterday. I left work early just to catch the evening sun and warmth. I am so used to the cold, I forgot how much easier it is to ride when its not freezing.
I want a Harley too :(

...so you can stand in the garage like i did this morning and look at your motorcycles and bicycles and be torn between which one to ride? sometimes i wish i only had one or the other, it's difficult to find time for both. lately the bicycles have been winning me over.

you mean, go to the prairies.

Toronto is in a winter thaw too. Personally I think it's worse than just snow.
The surface is full of dirt, salt and grime, and they're all concocted into this thin sheet of water all over the road.
My bianchi looks like it went to a muddy CX race, and all I did was ride 1hrs worth on city streets.

If you come to Canada you should pass by Calgary, we haven't had a serious snow yet this year and its been one of the warmest I can recall. Cold today, but warming up again over the next week apparently.

Nothing but clear paths since early December now.

Not that I wouldn't mind seeing another cyclist here in Calgary, but its been more like a dirty brown wonderland than a winter one.

It's definitely flat tire season. The snow melts and leaves all the pointy crap behind. And the meltwater washes more debris onto the roads and trails every day. The singletracks are inaccessible due to mud, and the ice on the lakes and rivers is gone.

100 years ago, spring thaw was the worst season for travel. If you rely on human power today, it still is! :(

There's lots of snow in Fish Creek park, especially on the North-facing slopes. Never [another Calgary poster] posted some AM/FR mtn bike shots from what looks like Moose Mountain [maybe Race of Spades]. It's out there if you want to go find it...

I have to say, I don't really mind it. In southern Maine (where I'll be moving to soon) it was in the 60's a couple days back, and down here in Tennessee it was 70. I do miss real snowfall though. We haven't had a snow in my part of TN that lasted more than a day here this winter. It has really barely started though and we'll probably have some cool days later on.

I just bought a new 29er and changed to studded tires, and then the snow all melted!

Move west or take an extended vacation!

Personally, I'd love to have the temperatures that the eastern parts of the USA have been receiving! :)

I got out in shorts today with some arm warmers and a shell covering. legs were just fine but toes were friggin' frozen as well as fingertips. I think it was 37F when I went out with light winds. It was simply nice to get the road bike out.
