Touring - How long is the list.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Can anyone tell me how long the list is to get a Surley LHT complete? Or how I can find out?
I would like to have one for spring, but if the wait is too long I may go with an alternative. And the second question is: What should I expect the price to be for the complete?
Thanks.
I'm not what you mean by "the list" but over the course of 2-3 weeks I test rode, ordered, and recieved a Surly LHT from my LBS in Seattle. I paid $1050 for the bike, shipping, and adjustments/tuning, and then rode it 20 miles home right out of the store. So far (3 rides, 60ish miles, non with panniers or extra weight) it has been absolutely amazing.

According to Surly and my bike shop ( I just got a 54cm last month) there is no list. If the bikes are not available your LBS will go onto Quality Bike website and get put on the alert list. When new LHTs are available they will be notified and can then order one. There are no backorders and it's just a matter of your shop being quick enough after they get the alert.

Ok, thank you. I was under the impression that there was a long waiting list. If you don't mind me asking what was the price paid. Also, how does the bike fit you? I am 5'9", medium build and I am thinking I want a 56cm.
Thanks. Joe

I have a Thorn Sherpa and a Surly LHT. If I needed to get another touring bike buying a LHT complete would be a no brainer. Proven design, excellent spec and low cost. I really don't think there is a better value out there when you look at all the angles. My Sherpa is a nice bike - nicer frame in some respects, but the frame/fork alone will cost you nearly what a complete LHT does once you get it shipped from the UK.
I can certainly see circumstances where I'd want a different bike, but you have to hand it to Surly for making a great product that is the right answer out of the box for a lot of cyclists.

Noted, It's just that I see, in the near future, a ridiculous amount of Surly's being ridden, ie: The Volkwagen Beetle or the Russian Trabant! Bike touring will be referred to as Surlying, and it may even bcome a fashion trend - You don't have a Surly? What are you some sort of social inept?
