Joe and I have been talking about it here and there, and some of you have asked about it, so I would just throw it out there in the open. Yes, we are moving to Costa Rica! We are both very excited and looking forward to the change.

It will be a while before we are down there full time. We are looking around this time next year before we are living there...maybe we'll wait until after the ski season! ;) In the meantime, we are going to get our business started, build a house and tie up all the loose ends!

Finally Crtreedude will have a couple of bf members as neighbors!

I think we've talked about it before. We are going to start an artistic jersey business. We are in the baby stages right now!

We'll see how it goes! It looks like we will have some help there already, but everyone is welcome to come and visit! :D

Neat. You may have talked about it, but I didn't see the thread if so. I've been giving a lot of thought to one day starting my own business too.

Rescue artists from New Jersey, and relocate them to Costa Rica!?

Brilliant!

I hope that means there will be a forum dedicated to the cool custom jerseys you guys make. And don't forget the skull caps.;)

That would indeed be very cool! :) Once we get the ball rolling with the jerseys, we'll see how feasible it is to make other accessories. :)

That's the problem. I have about 4 or more ideas and I like them all, but they are varied enough that it would very weird to combine them in one place.

My thoughts are:
Coffee
Bike apparel/accessories (specialty)
Pet Products (specialty)
Books (just because I love them)

Ahhhh ok! We are actually going to rent the place out to help pay for our expenses. Thinking of moving to Utah by any chance?

If we could swing it, it would be so cool to just keep it as a second home. Then we could come back for snowboarding! I'm totally addicted now. :o

Cool ideas! I've always wanted to open up my own coffee shop/cafe. Who knows, maybe you could have a really cool coffee shop that sells doggie treats, books and our awesome jerseys! ;)

That was kinda my thought.....the specialty items are harder to come by. They are products that exist very little or not at all. How do I find suppliers? Heck, how do I find the suppliers for normal stuff? I know NOTHING about running a business. I should look for a course.

I saw that you were getting real good, real fast at snowboading! Unfortunately there are not too many jobs for what I do around there :(..

I know I've got a lot to learn myself. Working for a small business was invaluable to me! I learned more about accounting than I could ever learn in a class. Try taking that course, and maybe think about working a job in a coffee shop part time or something!

Yep - Joe and Heather have lost their minds and are planning on being our neighbors... There is enough distance that they should be okay. ;) We are looking forward to having them around truth be told.

We currently working at preparing the fincas for this years planting - getting workers situated, etc. I was walking the finca with Antonio (I think that is his name - everyone has their real name, then a nickname) and he said that after you pass over our Quebrada you enter into a Reserve - and 40 minutes in that you hit a jungle river - totally clean and large. How cool is that Heather?

On a related note: I may be relocating to New Mexico this Spring or Summer.

It's true!

Utah and Costa Rica can't be any more different from each other, it should be really fun & interesting to live down there. Just need to work on my Spanish!

On the topic of snowboarding, yesterday was off the hook. I cleared a double black diamond yesterday (here be giants, honeycomb canyon, solitude resort), but just about every run is easier when you have 30" of fresh Utah powder...

The quebrada (stream) within the finca has lots of water - plenty to make a dipping hole for when you don't want to go the long way - but I am sure you will have to check out the reserve - with a guide of course!

Oh, and just for you to know you really are living in a jungle - a puma passed by a couple of days ago according to Eduardo. I love big cats. I told him not to be too excited - we have a jaguar that visits our finca - prints as big as my hand.

Thanks Lamplight! Sometimes it's hard to believe its really happening. It will probably seem a lot more real to me once we are down there living. But hey, we saw a chance and decided to take it. Why go through life always wondering "what if"? We are going to go out on a limb and live life!!!:D

Yay for big cats! I would love to see one of those! From a distance, of course! ;)

Pshaw Heather - piece of cake for you all. We were the real trail blazers - literally! Of course I can tell you doing what I was doing today I was a couple of times thinking... "Are you nuts?!?!" Take one horse with out shoes, going down a very steep road that doesn't have rock, just very slick mud - and it is rainy... Slip sliding away... But, it was nothing compared to Eduardo with Huevo and the cart!

Shadiyah

Well I hope it will be a bit of a workout! I want to maintain some good leg muscles hiking around the area! ;) It sounds like the horses got a workout themselves!

Heather, what precipitated the move?

crtreedude
01-07-08, 06:07 PM
Let's kill off Lamplight... :D

Heather - we have a handshake agreement (almost certainly going to happen) to secure the finca below ours which is connected - it is 311 acres, so with both, we are talking 450 acres. Surely enough to play around in, eh?

Anyway, very nice river, two large pools in it and on one side it goes into a big reserve that has something like this: (they say it is this size) Not the same color though - this is a rather famous River, Rio Celeste.

01-07-08, 06:10 PM
When I say our finca - I am meaning the one you are going to live inside - so you should be able to explore 450 acres of ours PLUS at least that much reserve I believe. That day you walked to the river (and swam) with me you saw perhaps 30 acres...

Shadiyah
01-07-08, 06:16 PM
Heather, what precipitated the move?

Well, it was actually crtreedude that put the idea into our heads. The more we heard about how he lived, the more attractive it sounded to us. Joe and I are not too thrilled about the direction the US is headed in right now, and we got a chance to live in a new place, so we're taking it! I think our main goal is to be 100% self sustainable. Living in Costa Rica, we should be able to maintain that goal. It will take a lot of hard work and the change will be enormous! But, we are looking forward to it. I can't wait to live life in a completely different manner. :)

Si, hablo espanol muy bien - de verdad, hablo mas espanol que ingles. Tenemos mas que 25 trabajadores y ellos solo hablan espanol

(I didn't bother with accents and tildes if you are wondering) And my wife speaks Spanish very very well - she studied it for 8 years in high school / college before coming here. She is fluent.

Wow, that's pretty cool. Congratulations, and have fun! If I were you, I'd spend summers in CR and winters in UT, so I could get the best of both worlds. Does CR have anywhere to snowboard? Hmmm, I guess you could always try surfing...

never been to Costa Rica... but it sure looks pretty down there.

how's the climate? (i'm asking as a born-and-raised Southerner who's considering moving north out of the swamp) hot and muggy isn't my thing.
