Ever since turning 21 two months ago, I started liking coffee (and wine). Not sure why this fondness started. So for Christmas my dad bought me a coffee machine (Cuisinart Grind & Brew) and an espresso/cappuccino machine.
So I would like to know what brand of coffee everyone uses. My dad uses Starbucks and says its worth the extra money, he is the last person to buy something just because of the name. So I went and bought 4 different kinds from all different regions, mild to extra bold. What else should I try?
I also got some flavored Starbucks syrups and have been experimenting by making my own frappuccinos. I don't know how I ever lived with out this stuff!:D

Ironically enough, for day to day coffee, I found Grandessa German Roast @ Aldi's. It tastes better than a lot of imports, Xfine grind and makes almost as good a cup of coffee as my Kona or Jamaican.. It's also only $3.99 a pound :D

Local expresso roasted beans. Don't expect to find in stores. ;)

I haven't tried too many 'good' coffees yet to have a favorite. My parents got me some Alterra (http://alterracoffee.com/) for xmas, and it is pretty good.

Free is my favourite brand.

Not tied down to a brand. Just like freshly ground. Usually a strong Columbian bean.

Free is my favourite brand.
Free and hot. Can't do cold coffee.
Not a big coffee snob. I like a medium roast, and usually get a Columbian Supremo or Breakfast Blend. Oh, and make it at home. It's usually just as good if not better than the $$$$ stuff at the Coffee House.

Red Sea Blend from Royal Coffee.
PS: Perhaps I should mention that it is a blend of three beans (Harrar, Yirgacheffe and Mocha Sanini, all from Ethiopia) and my green coffee buying club buys it by the 135 lb. sack. I roast it myself at home using my Behmor 1600.
PPS: Prior to getting into homeroasting several years ago, my favorite was the Kirkland Signature Sumatra, fresh roasted at my local Costco.

Guess I just have cheap taste...I prefer Yuban over the Starbucks/Seattle Best/whatever brands I've tried.

For grocery store, already ground coffee, Bustello was always my favorite. I don't drink grocery store already ground coffee anymore though.
RockyMountain,
First off, let me give you a BIG WARNING about that coffee maker. I used to have that Cuisinart Grind&Brew. I didn't realize until after a while that much of the coffee sludge was also collecting down in the chute and inside (not just in/around the grinder area). I didn't think I'd need to clean it every time, but when I opened it up to clean it one day, I found mold from where coffee sludge had been in the chute for days/weeks.
If you haven't used it yet, I'd take it back (that's because of my experience). If you keep it, then look very carefully at it often and keep it clean lest you drink mold.
Now, for coffee brands. My favorite (which I've discovered recently) is Ravensbrew coffee (www.ravensbrew.com). It's a fairly small roaster based out of Alaska (with a branch in Washington state now). I get them at Whole Foods, but if you don't live in Washington/Alaska or maybe Oregon then its doubtful they will have it at store (can order it online though - Cherry Karma is great stuff).
Another decent brand found in many more upscale markets (and coffee shops mostly in the West) are Peet's coffee.
As far as regions for coffee...that is totally subjective. My personal favorite regions for coffee are Yemen and Africa (Ethiopia mostly). Indonesia and India are also good. Many people sweat by the Central/South American coffee beans, but they don't tickle my fancy as much. I think "Columbian" coffee is much overrated.

I just bought a "Red Sea" blend the other night at Whole Foods. It was from a company named Allegro though. It sounds like a similar blend. I haven't tried it yet though.
I want to get into home roasting, but I'm trying to get my making down "perfect" first. I just ordered a Yama vac pot which should be here by the end of the week, I'm hoping.

I like Marinello (I think that's what it's called, but I'm not sure -- Columbian beans, perfecto!).
Folgers is also good; my best friend can make Pathmark coffee taste like it was imported directly from the homeland, but that's another story altogether.

If you're thinking of it and want to have great coffee. Get a french press or a vac pot. Both are typically pretty cheap (much cheaper than a good drip machine).
Vac pots (I just ordered a Yama): http://www.sweetmarias.com/prod.brewers.vacuum.shtml
French Press (can get a any box store): http://www.sweetmarias.com/prod.brewers.frenchpress.shtml
These are pretty tasty beans

I use Vivace Ultimate.
It is a locally roasted mix that they use in their cafe. Probably not available in the US though.:p
I buy about a 100g of beans a fortnight and just grind some up for my morning coffee. I drink more tea than coffee so a little lasts me between paydays.:D
Check this out. Cosco coffee in the green bags is Starbucks coffee. It says on the bag that it was packaged by Starbucks for Cosco. It's fairtrade organic coffee, but I don't like Starbucks coffee.
I drink the fairtrade organic coffee I get at a roastery right here in town. Best coffee EVAR.

as with anything you eat, with coffee, freshness counts. you'd do well to look locally for a coffee roaster. i guarantee you that their coffee will be your favorite if you buy only as much as you can use in a week (the life expectancy of freshly roasted coffee beans is ~7-10 days).
berkley&jensen's columbia supremo is decent cheap coffee, available in 2.5lbs bags at the local BJ's
that said, it's time for an afternoon cup
