I managed to break a brake.

Twisted the rear brake lever in an endo. Went to loosen the bolts, the first one came out just fine, the second one sheered off flush with the lever body.:o So on with the old 06 juicy 7. Until my replacement lever arrives from Sram.

Part of me was actually kind of hoping I would break one so I could make a thread like this. Though honestly I'm glad it was someone else.

How did you endo?

Trying to dodge a fallen tree that was a bit too big to grind over or jump over and either snagged a root or hit a rut the wrong way.

have you explored the option of a looser perch to rotate instead of break?

i use teflon tape under all my perches to allow for a secure hold yet smooth rotation if hit hard enough

I got a pinch flat once. I had to change the tube. It cost me $8.

So tell, me, Smashy: are those 29s? How are you liking them so far? I'm not totally sold on the wide-bar craze yet and am looking for reasons to embrace it.

I keep them loose enough for the perches to rotate in a crash (old habits die hard ;)); but I really like your teflon tape idea so that they don't scar the bars when they do. Gonna have to try that - - thanks!

yes, give it a couple wraps. more important than scarring is that i believe it allows for a more "positive engagement" of the fasteners with some calculated slip. without it, the metal to metal interface can be "grabby" and so you have to leave the bolts looser.

i don't know, it could be one of those unnecessary things people do. it has always worked well in motocross. then years later, i believe they started selling teflon plastic bushings with perches like the factory teams had....not sure if they still do that.

Now comes the next logical question: why don't the bicycle brake makers outfit the master cylinders with breakaway levers?

Because then you wouldn't have to buy a new one after a crash.

that is an easy fix with some "micro" hobby drill bits. if you do tastefully, very factory looking!

See: Code, new XT.

Nice bars smashy. I got them last year based on PF's recommendation and have been quite satisfied with 'em. (of course, you'd never find that out by searching because Brian spazzed out and deleted all posts shortly thereafter)

I'm going to venture a guess that possibly he sent the item, then didn't get the money. Just a guess, and it can be avoided by not sending the item until you've taken the funds out of paypal. but he wants to keep all his old **** around, why not let him?
