Fifty Plus (50+) - Another Bianchi in the house (err garage)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi,
It's in our attached garage along with my other two Bianchis and the Bianchis of my wife and eldest son. I did post this on the road forum about a week ago but I know that many of you don't wander over there. Without further ado:

I almost forgot, I have another Bianchi IN the house for a total of six in our household. :)

Sitting and staring at it would be pretty much all I could do with it. I wouldn't begin to know how to ride it - and if I did work up enough nerve to try it, I would pre-call an ambulance.

Are you sure that thing is legal? It looks like it's pumped with EPO.

That's sure to get the radar detectors beeping. I can feel the breeze just looking at it.

Really nice looking wind cutting bike. One comment would be maybe a wheel in front a littlel more areo. But this is nit-picking.
Hi All,
Thanks for the kind words. I'll be racing on the bike this coming weekend.

Ah, another Bianchi fan. Sorry about your screen. ;)

Well, since you asked (from oldest to newest):
The one that stays in the house and VERY RARELY gets ridden:

The most fun bike in my collection:

Bother away. :)

Sorry, she's kind of camera shy and she's a runner who tolerates my bikes. :D However, here's a shot of her bike (celeste) and my son's (black):

No EPO, but psychologically it's got to be good for 0.5 MPH. ;)

My marriage might not survive the purchase of an aero front wheel after the purchase of this frame. :o

Great looking TT bike, Cleave. How often do you TT?

Hi John,
Eight times last year. Two 40K ITTs, one 40K TTT, and the rest 20K or less ITTs. I'm planning on doing Tom's Farm in Corona on Sunday.
BTW, are you doing the Malibu ride on Saturday?

Good heavens. What a collection! And I'll bet every one of them was over fifty dollars. Great pics!

OK.....I put that bike on my desktop and this morning when I went down to the workshop I found the White Rabbit cowering in the corner. I coaxed her out with a new Jtek 3rd brake lever but I had to change the desktop again.
Well, THIS is a cool thread. The original bike is gorgeous and amazing, and the Bianchi collection is stunning, too! Wow!

Wow, a team time trial? That must be exciting! How many on the team? I assume they are Lightning Velo members?
The Malibu ride, I'm not sure. If I do I would start on this side of the hills with Cassave, but I wanted to do something longer.
Vertical Bob wants to go up Hwy 39 to the snow, sounds grueling.

Wow! What an amazing-looking bikek!
In fact, your entire collection is amazing.
How about a ride report? :D

That one is my kind of bike and by far my favorite of the bunch, but perhaps that's because it is the one most similar to my Bianchi. :)
It is hard to go wrong with Bianchi!
That new one looks dangerous.

Wow! That's a beautiful collection of bikes.
There's one of those in our LBS. It's no good for me - my stomach would be scraping the top tube!

Yeah, the TTT was four (4) old LV member -- combined age 220+ years. I really like TTTs as the distance and time seem to go by much faster.
Regarding Highway 39 and snow, last year was enough for me. I'll wait until it's warmer. BTW, I'll do hill repeats with you on Latigo if you want to make the Malibu ride harder. ;)

My affinity for Bianchi goes back to that bike. It was my second race bike. It's a 1975 Specialissima that I bought during the summer of 1976 -- $530 out the door. I restored it in 1986 (4th paint job and 3rd set of components) and I've hardly ridden it since then. Now it's a display bike in the main entranceway of our house (the only bike in the house). I would conservatively guess that I put 40,000 miles on that bike.
The only other manufacturers that I've bought more than one bike are Look and Serotta. :)

O.K., I think I'm in for the Malibu ride, but I'll start in Calabasas with Cassave. Have you ridden with him?
I'll pass on the Latigo repeats, but I might want to add to the ride once the Latigo climb is done. BTW, I said longer, not harder.

I fondly(?) recall my numerous adventures in the Malibu hills, including Rambla Pacifica, Saddle Peak, Tuna and Topanga Canyons, and Latigo Canyon. It was always a special treat to break through the cloud cover as one ascended from Pacific Coast Highway -- "I've looked at clouds from both sides now," as Joni Mitchell would say.

John;
Keep in mind that if we leave from my place and go via Topanga, then ride the Latigo loop,
the day will finish up at around 90 miles.
We could add another 10 or so if you're looking for a c-note.

You're welcome to come up here and ride with us anytime, in fact, jsigone is driving from your area to do this ride. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=365168
If not this time, just let us know when you want to go into the Santa Monicas again, we ride there quite often.
And Cassave, I thought of doing the loop and finishing at my car, not going back down to PCH and climbing up again.

Wow - what's the gearing on that rocket? I've rarely seen such a small rear cassette! I don't think I could get it into high gear using all 38 miles of downhill on that Hawaii volcano.

Hi,
53 / 39 on the front and 11-21 (10-speed) on the rear. I used the 53 X 11 once -- literally downhill with a tailwind. :)
