Be careful out there!
Woman found dead in Valley
By Susannah Rosenblatt, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
8:59 AM PST, January 9, 2008
The body of a woman who had been shot in the head was discovered by a passerby on an isolated San Fernando Valley road this morning, authorities said.
The woman, who appeared to be about 30, was found at La Tuna Canyon Road in Sun Valley just west of the Foothill Freeway, Los Angeles police spokeswoman Officer Karen Smith said. The body was spotted about 1:45 a.m. by someone in the area, she said.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide, Smith said.

Was she out cycling?

I was wonder why they had closed the road this morning. It's part of my commute when I drive into the office.

I was going to ride La Tuna this morning, too. Fortunately I didn't sleep well last night, so I slept in instead!

I saw it on the news early this morning and she had been shot in the head, but since it was still dark outside, the cops couldn't say whether she was killed there or dumped. They didn't mention a bike, because that was the first thing I wanted to know.

Most likely the body was dumped there. I've never seen a woman on foot anywhere besides the parking areas in broad daylight let alone at night.

Same here. Good thing I was driving today because it would be a pia to detour on my bike. It'll be a little creepy commuting down there tomorrow.

I've actually seen plenty of people walking the most desolate parts of that canyon all the time. I would see the same homeless lady walking down the canyon every afternoon as I rode up it. You're probably still right that the body was dumped, though.

Knbc actually showed the blood splatter on the turnaround going west. They said with all the blood she was shot there. It's at the end of the first large hill going east, right before leveling off slightly to begin the next hill.

I wonder what the scenario was that lead to this.
Unfortunately the writers are still on strike.

Unless it turns out the victim was a cyclist who was killed while riding that route, I would suggest not reading more into it than is there. Certain routes that are close-in to urban areas, and are popular bike routes, see their share of executions/body disposals (Angeles Crest comes to mind). I don't mean that to sound insensitive to the victim, but this doesn't sound right now like a cycling-related issue.
