Fifty Plus (50+) - No riding today !!!!!!!

75 mph winds this morning. Trees down all over the county.
Now it's 2:30 P.M. with sustained winds in the 30-40 mph
range. Think maybe I should wait till tomorrow.

At least it's warm enough to work on the Trek a little. Put an old
steel fender on the back. Hopefully I'll stay a little drier for the
rest of the season now.

Oh yeh, there's this grey squirrel trying to get into my den
thru the window. It keeps scratchin' away at the glass and
it's driving the cat crazy. I'ld offer it a beer but I'm all out. :D

I also skipped riding. Too windy outside, and I have a headcold. Yuck.

Done a ride in those conditions- Well 50mph that got worse towards the end of the ride.

Wish I had your sense and stayed at home.

There comes a time when conditions are just too bad to ride in. You had enough sense to not even attempt to ride but how about the rest of us?

Anyone else done rides in conditions that made you realise how stupid you can be?

I'm just heading out into 24 degrees and snow....don't know if it's stupid or not, yet.

20 minutes since Soveg went out- Shes either frozen to the saddle and can't get off-Or she has got lost in the snow. 24 degs- I would not call that a sane decision.

Don't know if it is the case where you live- But squirrels normally hiberbate in the winter over here- Perhaps he wants to get in from the cold.

Yep. Lost a tree in my backyard this morning. Darn temps won't stay on the warm side and are dropping as we speak. Dang. I was washing the Jeep yesterday in my t-shirt and 64 degrees! Today...42 and dropping by the hours and snow back on it's way! That's Rochester!

It was a great* ride! Didn't even wear a winter jacket. Those Nordic sweaters are nice and warm. I have to find some way of windproofing my arms, though. I put photos in at the Gauntlet to DG thread. Let's see that* sucker ride in 24 degrees!

I didn't bring a spare with me, though (D'oh! It was getting dark and I was in a hurry) so I was afraid of getting a flat. It would have been a long walk home.

When that front moved through this morning, I was so grateful that I don't work on Wednesdays.

1/9/08. About 64 for my ride today, no wind, perfectly clear. Left work early just to get out there on such a beautiful day. Florida is nice in the winter.

Gee, if I do 12 more I'll have ridden my age....or aren't we allowed
lunch at home between stages. While we're on the subject, do we have to do
an entire Ride Your Age ride on the same bike? Just wonderin'.

I would call staying at home in those conditions the actions of a sane man. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING OF???? Not something we expect on this forum.

And the sensible thing to do on a ride your age ride- is a series of loops that don't take you more than 5 miles from home- Then when you get the mechanical- it is easy enough to call in at home and get the repair done- Or change bikes- Or get the wife to finish the ride for you.

My longer rides don't take me more than 10 miles from home. Don't do a loop but out one way and circle the Home area and finally make the last 20 or so miles out on the marshes. Only problem with a circle is the headwind. I plan it so I have the headwind on the way out- if I can.
