Have had 2 pair now that have not operated smoothly when new. Never had any probs w/ multiple diff models of Look Pedals.

Are you talking about squeeking when spinning them on the spindals? I have 4 sets of beaters and a set of Mallets and they don't squeek when spinning.
However, I've had some "squeeks" on occasion from the cleat mounting screws rubbing against the pedal body after the cleat wings wear down. As soon as the cleats were replaced, no sqeeks..

I just got a set of quattros for Christmas. I've only been riding on the trainer, but haven't noticed any squeaking.

Squeaking/Creaking while pedaling, the more tension, the more noticeable. New cleats/pedals.

No squeaks on my candies.

At least for my brand new eggbeaters, it's more of a creak (feel) than a squeak (sound).
Wife's is more audible.

yeah, same here when i first got my candy sl pedals. seems to have gone away now, though. either that, or i've just grown accustomed to it.

My Quattro SLs creaked like mad when I first fitted them - drove me to distraction and spent hours trying to sort out if it was the pedals, the cleats or the new shoes which I had bought at the same time. In the end I came to the conclusion that it was the cleat/pedal interface that was the location of the creak and a bit of a rub on the cleat with a solid lubricant stick seems to have pretty much fixed the problem. I still occassionaly get a re-occurance, but another hit of lubricant soon fixes it and the more Ks I have put in on the pedals the less creaking so I guess it is "wearing in".

YMMV, of course!

I've got Quattros that are about a year and a half old, and my cleats are about a year old, and I get squeaks. I've always though it was the plastic cleat protectors rubbing against the pedal somehow, but it never bothered me enough to figure out what it was.

I've got Quattros, Candies, and Eggbeaters. The quattros squeaked occasionally but then i realized it was actually the plastic portion of the cleat rubbing on the pedal body when i twist my foot a certain way...

Mtn bike shoes? It could be the rubber cleats rubbing against the pedal body?

solid lubricant stick

What's that?

How about some paraffin wax as a lube for the cleat/pedal interface?
Actually have some Pedro's Ice Wax; guess I could try just applying that to the cleat?

I had an intermittent annoying squeak with my eggbeaters on a mountain bike. I ended up isolating it to the shoe-bottom and wings (I must have had an ever so slight ankle twist in my pedal stroke). I was able to kill it for some time with sole/cleat lubrication but didn't get rid of it permanently until I wore out the old shoes and replaced them...

My Candy C's are quiet.

The plastic shoe interface that comes with the Quattro cleat used to creak against the sole of my shoe, especially under stress, climbing, etc.

I just mounted the road cleat with the pontoon sides. No squeaks.

After 2,000 miles on a set of Quattro SL pedals I heard a constant squeek on the left pedal. Got a free rebuild kit from CB and replaced the seals and bearings; also used marine-grade grease and they were quiet and smoother than ever.

I'm 170lbs and somewhat of a masher so I think that may have played a part in its premature wear. Either way you should clean & lube the Crank Brothers pedals every year for extended life. It takes 5 minutes.

My only beef is with the cleats wearing so quickly. Otherwise, the smoothest pedal I have clipped out of.

No squeaks on my candies.

Same here. I get kind of a clicking noise sometimes, which I think is somewhere in the crank or bottom bracket, but nothing from the pedals.

i think this has been stated but it bears repeating. the squeak is probably the interface between the pedal wings and your shoe, not the cleat. my dominators make the noise whereas my diadoras do not. both have new cleats on them.

i've ridden with the squeak for several months, sometimes it's worse than others. i haven't noticed any damage or wear on the sole beyond what could normally be expected from eggbeaters and havent had any performance problems with the setup.

pedro's does make "cleat lube" which did silence the squeak for a little while the one time i used it. i thought it was kind of a silly idea but if the noise bothers you a lot it might be worth it for the peace of mind.
