Recumbent - Xtracycle Recumbents?

So i've been looking for a new frame for my Xtracycle, but lately i've been having more and more pain from riding an upright bike. Was hoping to find a decent off road capable frame so that I could do some adventure touring, but the pain of buying another upright is getting to me.

Does anyone know of a recumbent bike thats Xtracycle compatible aside from the Rans Stratus and Formula 26? I've seen these both done before, but the Stratus is a bit too big, the Formula a bit too discontinued.

I imagine most recumbents with a 26" rear wheel and no suspension would work. AFAIK most recumbents are not well suited to off road - at least I personally find it hard to balance on a loose surface. Packed trail fine, gravel or sand is a no go..

I ride an Actionbent TidalWave 3, it's a lot of fun. They do some other models that are quite reasonably priced, if you wanted to experiment.. I actually thought of doing something similar a while back, but find I can fit everything I need in panniers and can't justify the cost of an Xtracycle.

Well, I wouldn't be doing much trail riding if it was to come to a recumbent, save for the odd packed trail around campgrounds and such.

On the Recumbent, with the way that the tongue needs to rest on the chainstay bridge, the chainstays would need to be pretty horizontal.

Oh, I see what you mean. My TidalWave would be out then, it slopes upwards. I would have suggested Actionbent's new Tango - almost exactly horizontal chainstays, BUT it doesn't appear to have much clearance between the wheel and the frame.

Do you already have an Xtracycle?

If not - what is it that you need to transport that won't fit on a regular rack/panniers? I don't own a car, so I do all my shopping, errands and commuting by bike. I mostly just use the front basket on my upright, or occasionally two large panniers on my TidalWave.

if your recumbent is still under warranty, you might want to check if the xtracycle will void it.

That's pretty cool I wonder if you could make a tandem that way-- captain pedals the front wheel, stoker pedals the back?

And it would be an independent pedaling system to boot! :D

It looks like the captain's seat would interfere with the stoker's posture/comfort, not to mention the need for the stoker's handlebar mount. Fun to think about anyway.

Well, the P-38 looks great and from what i've heard is an incredible 'bent, but the price is up there. Too bad about the Cruzbike too, i've got one of those old y-frames, but it has a short rear triangle and the Xtracycle doesn't fit otherwise i'd be all over looking into that one more.
