Road Cycling - 04 Lemond Buenos Aires

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Anyone get a chance to ride any of the half steel half carbon 04 Lemonds? They look pretty sweet.

$3700 for a BA? This years was around $1600-1700. What did they do, gold plate it?

I highly doubt they're 3700. The Zürich is higher in the line than the BA and the 04 is selling locally for 2200 with a double.
No they're not 3.7G ... maybe in Canada ... lol. A LBS has a Zurich for 2.2G already.

Yeah - but they didn't meet their sticker quota. I thought LeMond's had to have a minimum of 12 LeMond stickers. :D

Hehehe yeah that is no lie.... come to think of it... my MAillot Jaune has at least 12 Lemond stickers... I could probably shave a pound off of it if I took all those off :D
I did check out the Lemond '04 site... they make 2 versions of a few of their bikes.. like the Maillot Jaune is made in steel, and carbon fibre, and the Maillot Jaune Classic (I think that was the name) is 853 pro steel... I new carbon and steel mix looks interesting... I wonder how they ride

Here's a happy 2004 Buenos Aires owner, showing off the new steed. (They do seem to have toned down the excess logos and stickers - and it's much "cleaner" for it.)

I was thinking about a 2002 Buenos Aires and thought they were pretty nice. The new ones are smoking.

my lbs girl said it was the best riding bike at the vegas show
I'm also looking at the buenos aires, my lbs has one in stock and I'm going to ride it this weekend. Who quoted you $3700???? This one is an 04' model and it is $1800 and some change.

That's the front porch of our house (built in 1913, so the craftsmanship exceeds what you'd find today, for sure).
Anybody else out there test-rode or gotten the new '04 Buenos Aires?
I've tallied up 8 posters from this and one other forum who are riding Buenos Aires, all the steel, pre-'04s, and 4 more on the Zurich, which has all Ultegra components, so it's the next pricepoint up on essentially the same frame as the BA.
I was pleased to read on another forum one of the LBS operators who's a frequent poster there (and a big Trek fan and salesman) say how impressed he was with the new Buenos Aires.

The list price on the standard-spec '04 Buenos Aires is $1900. (quoted from two different LBS)
Now I'm confused, how many versions of the BA are there? This is the bike I was quoted $1799 on. They were asking the same for the triple as well.

My quotes were for the triple, which, IIRC, was about $100 more than the double - so you may have a "deal" if they're quoting the triple the same as the double.
Sorry,I meant $1899, but they did say the same price for the triple as opposed to last year.

The 2004 Buenos Aires, Zurich, and Maillot Jaune all have the same frame. The BA is 105/Ultrega mix, with more of the former at something around $2000; the Zurich is all Ultrega and is about $2500; and the MJ is Dura-Ace 10 speed, at about $3500.
I took the 04 Buenos Aires for a test ride today and wow what a smooth bike. Now my only dillema is deciding between the trek 2200. The lemond is almost $300 more and is more suited for taller torso's but the top tobe is only 1.5 cm longer, maybe that makes more of a difference than I think. The trek has the race wheels while the BA has the select & the awesome frame. Decisions, Decisions.
Maybe I'm just (more of) a retro grouch in the morning but I kind of like the looks of the now "classic" 853 frame better. Is that a sloping toptube? Oh well.....
Decals are cleaner though.

The Buenos Aires is more Ultegra than 105, I think. Just the bottom bracket and front derailleur, IIRC are 105 (as my wife's trainer, who's a pro biker said, "mostly where it doesn't matter").
I did a 1-hour ride + today (most of it climbing) on my new Buenos Aires - what a difference from my Cannondale hybrid! (still gotta work on my cardio and lose about 15-20 lbs, but I felt so much more powerful on the BA.)
