I mean what is going on in Nor Cal? Does everyone stop riding because of the weather? Geeze, its quiet in here. So what are you doing with your time? Are you riding in the weather or do you have other hobby's? No video game couch potato stuff either.;)

Me Im riding, going to the gym, and riding the trainer depending whats on my training schedule.

I had been off the bike since the Mt. Hamilton Jan 1 ride. Last night at 7:30pm I said fug it and put the lights on the bike and did a 35 mile ride. Over to and up 9 to 35 then stopped at the parking lot to put on the full shoe covers and some more layers. I contemplated taking 35 to Page Mill but it's really dark and I'll wait till I get a helmet mounted light of some sort. Descended 9 to Saratoga Sunnyvale and used that flat stretch to work on my 100 to 110 cadence back to El Camino.

Hoyt up.

Since it was wet out, I was on the rollers for 45mins at 5 this morning (while watching the X-files). I was hoping to wake up to dry streets but it didn't happen.

But it looks like a dry week ahead. :)

There's too much road debris all over (no fun changing an inner tube in the rain)...and bike gets filthy after just one ride on the wet roads.

The four days before it started raining, I climbed Mt. Diablo from the house. On two of those days, I brought my 8 year old son along and made it to the south gate station one day and to the junction the other day. This is him on our way down from the junction as it began raining on us . He's using my arm warmers as leg warmers :). I'm pretty sure he would have summited if it hadn't rained.

Aside from that, I've been on the trainer and have given running (slow running) a try. Ran for an hour last Sunday and ached for the following two :o.

Hey man! Guitar Hero III is quite the workout. My wife and I did most of the 42 songs (on easy) during the hellish storm last weekend. My left wrist and right thumb are still hurting. :D

I haven't been out on the road since Christmas Day. Been hitting the trainer not as regularly since then too (only about 3x/week instead of 5-6x/wk). I would love to go on a ride Saturday but my wife wants to go to SF. Sunday if it's not raining for sure.

Ever since the ski trip to Park City at the end of the year, I've been a sloth. I'll try to ride into work tomorrow.

Lately, I've been spending too much time investigating DLG Sailplanes.

Being Boring. It ain't too bad with Bruce Weber.

I picked up a rear fender to put on the fixie, then I ride in the rain. Its really great fun. I enjoy all the looks people give like Im crazy. When I was a kid I always rode my bmx bike in the rain. Found out I still like riding in the rain.

Too much work is going on in my life right now. I guess that's good, I don't know. Too much work sucks.

I've been able to get away in the am for a quick run. Weekends are reserved for MTB or skiing. Lot's of skiing to be had.

And then there's the kids sporting events this month. Do even get me started!

So let's compare mtd to last January...yep, ok, I did 99 miles last year. Therefore my goal is to at least do that this month.

Not much riding this month yet but I did a 5 mile snowshoe hike last week in Yosemite (up to the Sequoia Grove) right before the storm.

I tried to set some rides between the showers but couldn't managed to get the bike out. So I decided to set the trainer last night (for the first time this winter) and put an 80 minute Spinervals DVD (Aero Base Builder). Got it started, a lot of rubber smell but I went on. Man was it tough, I didn't remember it to be that tough last winter. Released a bit of tension between the wheel and the drum, still tough and I couldn't follow the cadence recommended on the video. Went back to the tension adjuster and saw a lot of rubber debris at the bottom of the wheel. I wasn't using the trainer at the same location as last year and finally realized that my wheel was in contact with the tile floor which is obviously not even. Huge skid mark on the floor, square tire (good is an old one). After adjusting the trainer I could complete the 80 minutes of workout. I felt great this morning.

I registered for the Death Ride, it would be my first. I am not sure I will finalize my entry if I make it through the lottery but, at least, I have an incentive to train and ride.

Who else in the NorCal forum is registering for the Death Ride?

December is my busyest month, getting demos ready for CES. January is always busy dealing with everything that backs up in December, the Photonics West conference in San Jose, and new things to jump on because of the two shows. Bring on the rain, I say!:):o

I've been arguing with a poster on another BBS regarding the size of bike I am riding and the one I just bought my son. The guys says I made a mistake and bought bikes that are too small. I'm 5'8" and he says I should be on a 58cm and my son who is 6' should be on a 61cm. Totally out of sync with all bike manufacturers, fitters, bike shops, etc. The guy bills himself as an ex-racer. He's full of sh1t. Just because he has a PhD and works at Cal Tech, he thinks he knows it all. And, yes, I've actually met him. Once was enough.

I've commuted everyday to work by bike so far this week and commuted to work twice last week. I'm hoping to put in some major mileage this weekend by riding from my house in Antioch to Mt Diablo. Sunny skies forecasted for this weekend.(fingers crossed) Otherwise I still have one more course to finish to get a Super license in GT 4.:D

Hmm, work is actually kinda busy right now, not that I can ride yet... t-minus 12 days.
I've been hanging with the kids, playing Wii with them, and buying bike stuff (none of it
fancy enough to be schwag).

I also registered for the Party Pardee 100k in April and the SF Marathon in August, woohoo!

Hey, I'm planning on doing that ride on Sunday. Except, my husband will meet me in Walnut Creek, so I don't have to ride all the way back to Antioch. :p

I've commuted three days this week so far. It's a whooping, huge commute - 4.1 miles round trip. It was sunny Monday, so I got out for a ride after work. I've done a Spinervals - Uphill Grind, some yoga and some ab and back work this week.

Been stuck indoors -- either at work or moving house. Yuk. Monotony occasionally broken by browsing BF, oh and picking up my new Roubaix yesterday....which makes the lack of actual cycling even worse - it's like being a 5 year old perpetually stuck in Christmas eve. Since my wife is a non-biker, the consequences of me abandoning my domsetic duties for a sly ride would likely involve anatomical damage that could impact my future ability to ride said new bike. I'm eyeing the weekend though....

Still riding to/from the train 5 days per week reglardless of weather.

Also, various riding to groceries, stores, etc.

I haven't driven my car in over a week!

Yes I even rode that one day in the peak of the storm :)

Say, do you have a route mapped out anywhere? I've created this (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Antioch-to-Mt-Diablo)in bikely.com but I'm curious if you might have a better one.

Do you take Kirker Pass or Bailey Rd?

I go out Deer Valley to Marsh Creek and over Morgan Territory. Then I ride Manning, Highland and Tassajara to Blackhawk and go up the South side, to the Junction and down the North Gate. When I get picked up in Walnut Creek, that's about 60 miles. If you didn't want to do Morgan Territory, you could continue on Marsh Creek.

In couple of weeks, I'll be riding back to Antioch as well, on Marsh Creek and Deer Valley. That will be about 90 miles.

Gosh, I go right by your house since I take Prewett out to Deer Valley.

I considered Deer Valley to Marsh Creek before but I'm afraid of the complete lack of shoulders on Deer Valley. So I'm going the wussy way by going the other way around. :(

Deer Valley really isn't that bad. I ride it a lot to get out to the reservoir. I wouldn't do it during commute hours, but weekends really aren't bad. I've been on it some weekday afternoons too. The worst section of it is between Balfour and the hospital.

Have a good ride!

I've done mostly errands on my bike the last couple of weeks, the most exciting was riding down to Redwood City with a giant heavy duffel bag over my shoulder. My fenders haven't been behaving, need to fix them up, plus I need to buy some warmer gloves or mittens.

I've switched over to winter sports mode, especially since we've had all this glorious new snow !!! My cardio at this point is done in the pool and with a jumprope. I still run on the treadmill but I prefer to avoid that if I can, just because it gets a little boring.

I was going to make a weekend run to Northstar, but lift tickets are 71!!!!!. <----WOW!

I think I'll stay home and try Sierra Rd. We'll see if my indoor cardio is paying off.

Me, too.

Been in the gym with a new bike-specific strength training program, and on the trainer every other day or so. Actually, on some of the rainy days I've managed to nap, a slice of heaven that is. I should have been a bear -- all I want to do is hibernate. :p
