Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Cateye Computer Question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have a couple of Cateye computers. I'm wondering if the "ODO" number [as well as wheel circumference etc.] remains while replacing the battery . . . or is all information lost??
Also, what is the average battery life? This is for the 'wired' version, not the 'wireless'.

The first step is to do an all clear after replacing the battery and then do a computer setup. Some models allow you to manually set the ODO. I think the Mity 8 does and the Astrale 8 does not. If you don't have one, the manuals are available for download in the support section of Cateye's website.
Thanks Dekindy . . . but what I was hoping was that the unit "would not" clear itself when the battery is removed . . . therefore preserving all the accumulated data.

I read "somewhere" that the unit keeps it's memory for a short time after you remove the battery, but haven't tried it yet. I've got 2 Astrale 8's, one of which is two years old and battery is fine. I may try changing soon just to see. It's a drag you can't manually set the ODO on that model.
I also remember someone that mounted their wheel magnet to a drill and was able to reset to their desired mileage reasonably fast that way.

Huh. Why would you need to do this. You can directly set the ODO.

Not on the Astrale 8 unfortunately.

My Astrale is probably over 5 years old and still using the original battery. It's showing over 5,600 miles on the odometer, so you probably have a while before it'll need to be replaced.
The real problem I had with mine was when I originally installed it, the battery was constantly dropping out of touch with the contacts. It would automatically reset each time that happened. It was maddening! I finally solved the problem by jamming some foam in with it to keep it in place.

Didn't work for me. I did a battery change in less than 3 seconds and the odometer read 0000 =(
