View Full Version : Pegs on a fixed gear?

Hey... I have a question about pegs on a fixed gear.

I use my bike mostly for hangin out and getting around town. Some of my LOSER buddies don't have bikes. I was contemplating getting some pegs to toss on the back of my fixed gear, but then I was thinking that the weight of someone standing on them might shift my back wheel around. But then I started to think that the weight actually gets applied to the axle, so the rim should take the weight.

Then I figured... ****... why don't I just ask to see if any of you lugnuts have ever done it.

Anyone have any thoughts??? Besides that I'm an idiot?

it's going to be a crappy ride for both of you, but as long as they aren't idiots and try to dismount off of the pegs by doing a 360 (saying this because I watched it happen), your rim shouldn't get trashed. If it were me, I'd want both front and back brakes. That's a lot of momentum. Also, the center of mass is going to be way high up, so handling is going to be ****. I could imagine a situation where the passengers weight was off balance and it putting a ton of horizontal force on the rim.

front pegs could be done. as far as back pegs, there's a good argument against it that i can't remember anymore.

I believe the argument against pegs on "track" hubs was that although the axles are solid, they're not as beefy as BMX axles and not designed to take that sort of abuse.

Aside form it possibly messing up your ride.........what about how silly it would look if you were pedaling your buddy around town. Maybe if your buddy was a hot lil chica but I wouldn't want my buddies bouncing junk all up on my bum! Tell you friends to get a bike!

wow. shut up.

Easier to just build a bike at the co-op or something.

The energy spent riding your buddy could be spent with a wrench.

Frame standers seem IDEAL!

How are those fitting on those "semi-horizontal" dropouts? All the ones I see on Ebay seem to be designed for true track style horiz drops.

This is PERFECT!

whelp, looks like fg just turned completely bmx-y.

but really slop is right, bmxers have 1/2" axels so they are stronger, ive seen cheap freestyle target bikes with 3/8" axels that are pretty bent from people riding on pegs.

And if you look up a few posts you'll see a track bike that they do fit on.

well, if the question is how they'll work with track ends, that picture answers nothing.

don't do it. It's going to be that much harder on your legs to slow down and if you ride brakeless, skipping will throw them
