I am still feeling a bit goofy. It sems that for the first time in my life I will need the painkillers they prescribed. The doc was very pleased with the surgery and told me that all should be well if I take care of it properly. I still do not know how long I will be off of my feet. I guess I will find that out on Wednesday when I have my follow up visit.
Thanks for all the good wishes.
Brian

Woot! Enjoy the meds :D
(Depending what it is you may want to drink a ton of water - some can be a bit 'binding')

See what you miss when your ISP is down for a week. Glad to hear everything went well, and hope you get up and riding soon. Best wishes on your recovery Brian.

I can confirm those words of caution. 'bout a week on oxycodones and it'll be like trying to pass a studebaker:o(
Glad you're up and around. Things get better (trust me...6 surgeries down the road now)

Hey Beth,
You know, I knew you'd be terrific when I met you and I was right. Thank you so much for asking. I am doing okay. I went to my dr last Wednesday and had my foot put in a cast. After a 5 days of that I found that I was unable to sleep with the cast on. When I went to the dr yesterday I mentioned this to him and he took me out of the cast and gave me a walking boot, although he does not want me walking yet so I am still on crutches for the next 2-4 weeks. The pain, however is gone BUT I am now on intravenous antibiotics for 4 weeks and have a PIC line in my right arm. I have had this before and, although, it is a bit of a hassle it does work, so I am okay with it.
I asked the one big question though...and that was....when will I be able to get back on the bike and ride again? He told me I should be good to go by spring. So all in all things are progressing as well as can be reasonably expected.
And again Beth I thank you for asking about me. Rest assured that it brought a big smile to my face.
Bless you my friend,
Navin:D

You guys can pester me anytime you like. I was upset that I had to miss your Princeton ride, although I would likely have held you back...what with not having ridden since lancaster and all. Feel free to call or email me anytime at all for anything at all.
Cheers,
Brian

You are a kind soul, my friend - and I will be honored to ride with you this summer (or spring!)
Keep us posted . . .

Happy healing Brian.
I missed out on last year's Lancaster ride. Do you plan to make this year's? I am.
Also, I am riding 2 different Tour de Cure rides for diabetes, before then, (central PA and Indianapolis) so I will probably think of you a few times as I ride.

Thank you LD....I hope to be back in the saddle by spring. It is going to tkae me some time to get back into any reasonable shape after not having ridden since August because of this thing.
Good luck to you.
Cheers,
Brian

Hi Neil, This is a bit off subject, but I dig your musical selections. If you've never heard Porcupine Tree, they'd make an excellent addition to the genre. Rock On (in a Progressive kind of way)

UPDATE: Well I went to see my surgeon yesterday and got some good news. My foot is healing well and is currently showing no signs of infection or scarring. He removed the stitches and said that the wound area was very clean and had no residual bacteria. I should be back on my bike by spring for sure. I am still on IV antibiotics and crutches for another two weeks, but the end of the ordeal is near.
I want to thank all of you for your well wishes, trust me they have not gone unappreciated.
Bless you all,
Brian

Latest Update: After my visit to the surgeon yesterday it was determined that I can begin putting weight on my foot, thereby weening myself off of the crutches bit by bit. There is still a small drainage hole for fluids that needs to close up. He anticipates this taking about 2 more weeks, I am also still on the IV antibiotics for the next week at least, after which I will scheduled for a fitting for custom orthotics and shoes. After that I have to look into orthotics for my cycling. I am beginning to feel really good about my chances of getting back on the bike in spring. After not having ridden since August I cannot imagine how out of shape I will be. I guess I am in for a long series of very slow training rides just to get myself used to being in the saddle again. I was never a speed demon to begin with so this will be nothing new to me:D.
Again I thank you all for your well wishes and wish you all safe and happy riding and hope I can see some of you out on the roads in the very near future.
Cheers,
Brian (Navin:D)
Maybe install a bike seat on the couch or at work - few hours sitting on that should get yer arse in shape quickly enough. The rest of ya...you're on your own ;)
Great to hear the healing is going well - keep it up!
