Ok, so I've swapped my 53/39 Shimano crankset for a 50/34 SRAM Rival
2 piece crankset. The Shammino adjustable BB had a large external metal
disc on the drive side. (behind lockring) I believe this disc piece is to help
protect my carbon frame in the event the chain falls off the inner chainring.
Is that correct?

Should I re-use this disc and install on drive side (if wide enough) behind
the GXP external cup of my SRAM Rival crankset? It is a very thin piece of
aluminum.

It wont hurt to put that in there as added protection from the chain grining on the carbon if it falls off. Should work just fine.
