I'm up for it. Count me in. I may do the Caltrain thing again. Anyone else?
Dang I was just there yesterday. :p

i am interested! Let me know which train you are taking.

I'm debating on whether or not I'm taking Caltrain, or just drive up to Millbrae and take Bart over. Last time, I didn't have change, and just bought $20 fare on my Bart ticket. Gotta use it somehow.
man, I just took my bike apart. It'll be a few weeks before I can ride again.
Just a thought about options for Sat. Ride:
1. (My suggestion) Sausalito, to Fairfax, Sir Francis Drake, Nicasio Valley rd to Pt. Reyes Station downtown, Hwy 1 south to Bolinas, Fairfax Bolinas rd up to Tam, back down to Mill Valley.
2. Sausalito to Point Reyes Light house out and back.
3. Just Mt tam via back from Fairfax
4. Sausalito, same as #1 but petaluma cheese factory and Marshall wall without TAM.
???? Votes?
Pete
#1: I've done this ride w/ the Cheese Factory and Tam thrown in. It's a great ride. I'd love to join you but unfortunately I think I might have to play "Shuttle" for the kids sporting event again this weekend. If things change, I'll let you know.
BR
I was thinking we would start in Fairfax. I hate that section between Mill Valley and Fairfax with all the stops.
It's about 60 miles, I think, to start in Fairfax, go out to Nicasio, Point Reyes Station, down Rte 1 to Fairfax-Bolinas, up to the summit of Tam, back down Fairfax-Bolinas to Fairfax.
We're planning on being there.

The only problem with that is people comming up from the south bay or east bay on bart. The way to solve it would be a 9:30 start in Sausalito meet you at 10/10:15 in Fairfax...when we get to the top of Tam we'll have the option of going back to mill valley or Fairfax with you. How's that?
That sounds good. We could push the meeting in Fairfax back to 10:45, since the initial plan was for a 10 AM start. Either time is fine with us. :)
Veronica
Would love to climb Tam again but my son have a basketball game tomorrow. Have fun.
edit: I meant Saturday.
So are we going for the 9:30 am start in Sausalito? Scheduling is more flexible with Bart, so we could work around that. Besides, I need to use my Bart ticket.

Let's do 9:30am start I'll edit post. I like earlier starts anyway, and I'd rather Veronica doesn't sit around up there drinkin coffee...It's going to be hard enough to keep up with her anyhoo : )
Pete
9:30 am Start from Sausalito/ 10:15/10:30 start Fairfax
I'll probably get on the Millbrae Bart train that leaves @ 7:55 am.
how long is this ride?
PS - Think I can ride to Sausalito from SF Caltrain in 54 minutes? (train arrives in SF @ 8:36 AM)
how long is this ride?
I think about 70

Did you not read the thing about my handle? The Zippy part is for descents. I'm tenacious on climbs, that's all. :p
Veronica
I think I'll drive and meet you at Mike's Bikes in Sausalito at 9:30.
USPSPRO: Wanna ride? I'm coming over from Half Moon Bay.
This sounds like fun, and I wanta go. But I'm building up my new frame on Friday night, and somehow taking an untried, un-fine-tuned bike far from home on a long ride seems like a bad idea.
Here's Tricia with the new Kestrel. I can hardly wait to be rolling...

Hey Curtis, Just put on a big pot of coffee and stay up all night and put that bad boy together! : )
Pete
That's a pretty sick frame btw! Can't wait to see it all growed up!
Oh, it'll be built up on Friday. But it takes a bit to dial in shifting and seat position. Do I really want to do that on longer ride?
That frame is either going to make me ride like I'm 10 years younger, or someone will beat me up for having a bike I don't "deserve."

Now that's just silly talk. I hereby declare you deserve it!
I'm up for a 9:30 meetup in Sausalito. Will be riding from Embarcadero BART station (coming from east bay). Anyone else riding from BART let's co-ordinate for the ride to Sausalito.
I suggest leaving Embarcadero BART at 8:30 to have plenty of time to meet, grab a cup, pee, etc. The ride to Sausalito is about 45 min.- 1 hour. Watch for cops in Sausalito they like to nab cyclists.
What kind of pace are you planning?

Yes, meet me at Embarcader BART station at 8:30, at the corner of Drumm and Market, next to the Cable car tracks. We can ride over the bridge.

Still thinking about it, depends on what time we'd be done. Unfortunately I have a couple of other things to get done as well.

You could ride to Fairfax with us and drop off the ride and go up the back of Tam and skip Nicasio/Pt Reyes. That will save you a couple of hours.

I think that would be a perfect thing to do. :D All those people around to give you advice on how to make it better... Drag Tricia out too. She'll have someone to ride with. :)
V.
Hey pZip (that's your rapper name, right?)
How are you getting to the start?
I'm being driven by my chauffeur. :p
We're starting in Fairfax. There's a closed grocery store (at least it was closed last time I was out there) on Center St. in Fairfax. It's on the right and has a coffee shack sort of place in the middle of the parking lot. We'll park there.
We go across the San Rafael Bridge, north on 101 to the Central San Rafael Exit and then do whatever the GPS says (or Google). There are a bunch of funny little turns. It sounds a little complicated, but it's not too bad. I managed it by myself the first time, didn't get lost and I almost never leave Antioch. :p
So did I talk you into it?
Veronica
What kind of pace are you planning?
The group will be traveling at a moderate clip :) We'll try to make it to Fairfax by 10:15, so I'm hoping to leave right at 9:30. If your going to be late let me know. 415-828-0467. Someone will hang back for you. This will be a really fun ride.
Pete
I want to.... I think.
I have to wait and see if my bike is done, and if it feel like it's really ready. I won't know until 6pm Friday or so.
I also have to wait to see if Tricia wants to go. She'll read this thread, so if anyone wants to offer extended descriptions or info please do.
hey pZip: If we (or I) do the ride do we have any carpool possibilities?

Our car only takes two bikes. We're looking into getting something in a year or so that will carry four bikes and four people. Thom has been doing SAG on my doubles and that would be nice. For us, we often go on vacation to places where we would like both our mountain bikes and road bikes.
Anyway...
Saturday's ride... I think Marin is one of the most beautiful places I have ever ridden. There's a little bit of a climb out of Fairfax. Then rolly out to the coast. We'll be doing the reverse of some what you rode on the first day of the MS ride, down Rte 1. I've never ridden up the ocean side of Bolinas-Fairfax Rd, so I'm looking forward to that. Once you get to Ridgecrest you have several upward tending rollers to the summit of Tam. A couple of them are a little tough. The view as you ride along Ridgecrest is enough to take your mind off whatever pain the climb is giving you.
Our philosophy on group rides - is no one is too slow. We may not always be right with you - particularly when climbing. But you're not going to get left out on your own either. That's what regroups are for. :)
I think it's going to be a pretty day. Come on out and play, Tricia.

That's basically how the Mt Tam challenge race goes up the mountian. It's a nice climb and not as dark as the climb from Alpine Lake. Pt Reyes St. has plenty of places to grab a snack and is a great gathering spot for other bike riders. There's a portable bike mechanic set up in the downtown park on full time duty just in case there's any problems. I'm really looking forward to this ride. Except for a slight cold I feel back too a 100 percent. I hope lots of folks show up for the ride.

I'm very new to riding up in Marin, so I'm very excited about this ride! Look forward to seeing you(s) there.
PS: cccorlew & taxi777 - we can talk about our double century plans while we're on the ride! I need the moral support to do that this year (assuming you guys are still up for it).

She's saying this on my behalf because I'm the one who lags way behind her & Thom on all the climbs. :D
Just to let everyone know, this ride will have slow people. Myself, jobob, PrincessZippy, Taxi777 ... :p
SesameCrunch is the fast one :D

!!Awsome!!!
Where's Ms. Incredible and Red Rider amoungst others BTW, If we get enough babes on this ride it could end up a Chick dominate ride!....That would be different!! :D
Sorry, I'm going to have to sit this one out, partly because I have to get ready for my orchestra concert Sunday followed immediately by a business trip, partly because I'm still healing up from tweaking my knee a couple of weeks ago. Have fun though, take pictures!
Where exactly around Mike's bikes are you meeting up and who should I look for?
Is there a good coffee shop at Mike's?
9:30 looks good.
I'll be on an Aero recumbent.

Look for the freakish old man with a grey beard in a NorCal black/yellow kit w/black/yellow bike...He'll probably be drooling and mumbling obsenities to himself and chasing young ladies around the parking lot right at the front door of the bike shop:eek:
Cafe trieste downtown Sausalito on your way there has the best coffee. I'll bring a Mocha goo for ya...

No way! What little speed I had got left at the many Holiday dinners in December.
I only had 2 rides all December. I'm trying to work my way back up. :(
I'm still in te hoping stage, but for planning I'd like some advice.
I don't know he area. I live in the desert of Antioch.
How much are you all planning on wearing? Summer clothes? Jackets? Tights? Knickers? Hats? Long gloves? Ride in the buff?

Cold in the morning with Warm sun on the way up West side Marin. Cold desent. Mostly tail wind through last half of ride. I usually have two shirt layers vest and fold up wind breaker Leg warmers/Knee warm on top for starting. Head warmer just in case. Temp from 56/63
I might be in for the ride, will know for sure tonight.
If I make it I will park just south of the bridge and ride to Mike's for the 9:30am start.
