Southern California - Breathless Agony Registration Reminder

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

And that is exactly why I joined a cycling club--------to hear all the positive and encouraging words from my cycling buddies. Thanks Rick. Wait a minute, aren't we supposed to be talking about KOM? Sorry, no more RAB here I promise.
April 5 is the Redlands Classic, will the 60 mile Savage Challange be a similar route to BA? Minus 45 miles of course. I signed up for both and now I'm scared. Not of the Redlands Classic but BA. I'm looking for something to gauge my fitness and give me an idea of what to expect. I was going to do the Spring Stagecoach but this ride is on the same day and has more climbing in 60miles than stagecoach has in 100.
Have you tried Pertetuem instead of SE?
I liked that, but have never tried SE?
I never saw this. Sorry Herb! No, I haven't tried Perpetuem.
I've recently fallen in love with Sportquest products. I used CarboPro1200 on a solo century last weekend and felt well fueled throughout. I may use those on my events this year and supplement with the Hammer products PU provides.

1200 calories in 16 oz! That's some calorie dense stuff.

I was liquid all day that day Herb, including breakfast. I had to start early because the kids are home by noon. I didn't feel like eating so I made a bottle of Carbo Pro powder mixed with Interphase, another Sportquest product. Then used the CP1200 (which I mixed with some CP powder to add extra calories and I kept in flasks) to refill my bottles. It was nice to just have to find water instead of a convenience store.

Just in case there's someone out there who doesn't know... Breathless is SOLD OUT. If you aren't on the roster and you DO want to finish the King of the Mountains Century Challenge, you MUST get on the waiting list NOW. Contact the organizers for Breathless and tell them you want in!
Priority will be given to riders who are signed up for Mulholland and Heartbreak.

Our little secret...

How did you find the hydration went? I occasionally consider trying the one bottle of ultra dense calorie stuff and one bottle with water. Then I always think I'll need to stop for water more often than I'd like. I've got some Hammer stuff I may try at Solvang since I'll be stopping regularly anyway.

I feel that I was on top of my hydration more because the CP1200/CP paste mixed with water was so palatable. If what I'm drinking is too sweet, I won't drink as much and this isn't the case with CP. The flavor when mixed with water is very subtle. I ended up going through five bottles (CP1200+CP powder from the flask added to a 24 oz. bottle of water) and had to stop for a nature break twice during the day.

The website says 112 calories per ounce.
http://www.nvo.com/sportquestdir/products/skudetail.nhtml?uid=1000
That means 2,240 calories in a 20 oz bottle? Is that possible?
Holy liquid cheesecake.
OK, I think I'm getting it now. 1oz is one scoop. There's 112 calories per scoop. That's one serving.
Now we're talkin'. It doesn't mean 112 calories per fluid ounce of the stuff once mixed.
I get the feeling I just explained this to myself, and everyone else got it right away.

We have quite a few KOM participants on the board... stay tuned for numerous training rides in the Santa Monicas, Angeles Forest, and Mt. Baldy.

Gotcha, I was thinking you just had the CP1200 stuff in one of your bottles which you would sip from while you had water in the other bottle. So it's really just like a powder mix that you mix with water, except its liquid.
I hear you on drinks that are too sweet. I like the unflavored heed best. I'll have to check out this stuff though.
I'll do it next year if its not on the 1st Saturday in May! But I wish you all a good and safe ride. I'll be in Vegas watching the Kentucky Derby.

It's always on the 1st Saturday in May, that's part of the reason I have never done it. This year I'm saying f****it and closing that day...........you only live once!

Good training plan Blue Nose!:) That's what I've been doing! Well, plus suffering through a cold for two stinkin' weeks, . . . but still try to ride climbs on the weekends and recover (get well) during the week.
Will be climbing this weekend in OC.

I'm going for the KOM as well, so I'll be down for some rides.
Is there going to be a group partial preview/ training ride for this?

I've got a couple of spots that we'll be rolling to next year or selling due to the new business.... if anyone wants to find out if we can give up our spots to a BF member specificallly, I'd rather a SoCal BF peep get the spots!
