I ordered a Bike Friday tikit today. It should be here in a month or so as they apparently customize it somewhat. I decided to go for it because they have a 30 day money back guarantee. Should I find something I like better in the meantime, I'll return it, but I have high hopes this is the correct bike for the job. Thanks all!
Congrats on your new Tikit Mr. Smith...:) What model/spec did you order?

I ordered a large "tikit 2 ride" with a front rack and heavy duty tubes. That was what was recommended to me by the sales agent I spoke with. If I don't like the cassette/derailur, I'll upgrade it to a hub system at some point down the road or trade up if Bike Friday offers one down the road.
Sounds like it should be a lot of fun and attract a lot of positive attention in the area where my office is, which is saturated with Bentley/Ferrari/Lamborghini/Aston Martin/Mazzarati/Porche/H1 driving fools. Maybe some of them will convert. Phoenix needs to up the commuter conscious city ante.

As much as I really like the Tikit I don't think the single sided pannier rack is functional for much more than keeping the shower cap cover off the front wheel when you roll it. See my blog post about it here. (http://viktikit.blogspot.com/2007/12/tikit-single-pannier-front-rack.html)
Bike Friday has agreed to build me a custom 2 sided pannier rack for my Tikit. With a bag on either side you'll be able to carry more and the weight won't compromise the bike's handling. On my large Tikit the bigger front rack won't affect the fold either.
If you are interested in a 2 pannier front rack call BF and talk to Hugh. Tell him you want the same front rack as Vik for your Tikit. Cost hasn't been finalized, but I'd expect somewhere in the range of $100-$150. Timeframe is for an end of March delivery.
