I know this isn't exactly bikes, but a lot of people use TriMet in conjunction with their bike in PDX. I do know that Fred Hansen is a Republican with a penchant for privatization.

For 25 years, it's been a unique part of Portland's civic culture, but now
Trimet's general manager says it has outlived its usefulness and is a
security hazard. He will recommend to its board at their next meeting that
they sharply limit the hours that Fareless remains fareless, all as part
of a supposed plan to increase security.

Proponents of this plan have been unable to explain how cracking down on a
crime wave at distant suburban stops requires curtailing Fareless Square.
However, as part of an ongoing trend that has seen ever more public
services cut back or privatized, while luxury items for the rich such as
land yacht sized suvs enjoy hefty tax breaks, Trimet's soon to be
announced reductions of Fareless fit in with the general drift of the rest
of the country.

Will citizens of Portland resist this latest installment of the reverse
Robin Hood trend in America? Trimet has announced two public hearings next
week to let the public weigh in on the issue before the axe falls in
February. To learn more, visit
